What to do? Adding a day to WBC reservation

Last June I booked a 1 week stay at WBC for a great price on a 2BR via Vacation Strategies. We've stayed there a few times before and enjoyed it. This was before all the rental and cancellation changes took place.

Airline prices dropped and we were able to save some money flying in a day early (Friday evening). We now want to add one night. This comes out to about to an additional $400 for the added one night. This is now factoring in the new price and cancellation changes. It would be roughly $1250 for 8 nights stay in a 2BR.

My dilemma: do we just add this one night with the expensive extra one night fee and lousy cancellation policy? Or do I just book somewhere new (for probably a similar rate)? I thought my hotel planning was done! Frankly, I'm really just upset that the price jumped so high for one night and now we would be stuck with the restrictive cancellation policy (we had to cancel a vacation once due to illness, so that is a factor for us).

What would you do?

eta, we get grocery delivery to eat at the condo for the week. I was hoping to have all the unpacking and food put away so Saturday morning we could wake up and enjoy the start of vacation.

An addition $400 for one extra night is insane! I would do one of two things:

1) Keep the reservation as is. I'm assuming you have to figure out and pay for a way to get to and from WBC and the airport. Were you planning on a shuttle service, uber, cab ect? I would cancel my plans for however I was shuttling to the and from the airport and rent a car for the week now. Unless this week is a peak week like Easter or Christmas week it's doubtful the rental car and a night at a hotel somewhere in Orlando will cost $400. Also, how were you planning to get to the parks from WBC. They do have a shuttle to the parks but it has a per person charge. Depending on your family size parking a rental car at the parks might be comparable. I would then book a hotel for one night only near Disney. You might be able to find a place for the first night with breakfast included. Go to the parks in the morning and then when it is convenient to you check into WBC and use the rental car to just do grocery shopping on your own.

2) Find another condo location altogether where you can stay the entire trip. We do condo rentals is Orlando a lot and $1250 for 8 nights on a 2 bedroom seems high to me.

We have a car booked for the week. We aren't doing Disney, but rather Discovery Cove/SW/AQ/BG and Legoland.

Stay somewhere else, I do that all the time before or after a longer booking. Last time I stayed at WBC we booked at Hilton Orlando up by SeaWorld. But I have stayed at LOTS of resorts, especially night before because we drive in and would hardly get our monies worth when it's an expensive night.

I had to get one night for Sat May 5 - the best rate I found was at
Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista
8442 Palm Pkwy, Lake Buena Vista. 407-996-7300
I have not stayed here before and they have mixed reviews on trip advisor but I felt it would be ok for one night.

If you are flying in on a Friday night, I would stay in one of the many hotels near the airport. Get up the next morning and start your vacation.

Was the airline savings over $400 plus the cost of meals for an additional day?

How many in your family? I would stay one night somewhere else and keep the WBC reservations as is.

We found ourselves in the same situation, but are flying down for arrival on Wednesday evening and not checking into WBC until Saturday. We decided to go to Universal Studios until we check into WBC and wanted to stay on-site for Universal's express passes. The suites at Universal deluxe resorts are $$$ and since we would not be in the parks until Thursday I only booked two nights at Universal. I went on Hotwire today and was able to get a 2 bedroom condo unit for $105 with a discount code. We are staying at Westgate Palace for the one night. I know it will not be WBC, but I am happy to take the gamble knowing it is just one night. I would suggest seeing what Hotwire has to offer.
