What to avoid

I am so glad I read this thread. We are going back to Disney in May. We haven't been since 1996 and my youngest wasn't born yet. We loved Alien Encounter so I assumed we would like Stitch escpecially my youngest. I'm so glad I know now not to waste our time. And it sounds like Dinoland is something else we want to skip. And I agree I've never understood the big deal about the Dumbo ride. I'm kind of hoping my kiddos want to skip that one. I am curious about the Country Bears thing though. Is it a ride or show? I know several people said they didn't like it but for some reason my DS has always loved loved loved that movie so we planned to check out CB when we went. Is it really that bad that we should avoid it?

if you dont have little kids do not do the imagination figment ride in epcot. i wanted to shoot myself. haha not a good ride.

Two DDs (8,5) love Figment and I do too. I don't like the skunk part of the ride, but enjoy the rest. Even that song - I spark of light ...

What to skip - walking the Epcot countries - did not do them for 5 years and DW asked, Why don't we do them anymore? We did and remember why. A lot of walking and just not that interesting.

Journey into Narnia- a movie trailer.
Carousel of Progress-annoying song and no way out.
Sounds Dangerous staring Drew Carey- good place to catch a nap (pitch black and air conditioned).

I dont think there are any attractions that i would flat out not do again.
There are some that i would only do if Ive done everything i wanted and there were no lines. They include
Stitch(i didnt think it was the worst ride ever like some people do i guess)
Mission Space(did it once i thought it was ok)
Dumbo( i like it but not worth waiting all day for since i dont have kids)
All of Toon Town(while its still there)

And there are some that i would only do if someone im with wanted to do them including
HISTA(i went on it last year after not going for 10yrs and i decided i could wait another 10 yrs. it would be ok without the long kodak comercial in the preshow)
Rock and Roller Coaster(im not big on coasters. ill do them but dont have to if im alone)
Magic carpets or triceratop spin or tea cups(just not for me)
lights actions motor car show( saw it once thought it was ok)
Speedway(my friends 2 yr old loved this ride. i kept trying to check a rearview mirror)

Thats all i can think of right now

It's funny, we were at WDW with my 2 (4 & 2yo) daughters in '08 and the 4 yo loved test track, splash and thunder mountains, and the haunted mansion but was absolutely petrified of Tough to be a bug. We had to leave the show 5 mins in b/c she was shaking from crying.

For me personally I don't like Stitch and I can't handle Mission:space (I was still motion sick on the plane ride home two days later).

Stich is the only ride/attraction I would have no problem telling anyone to avoid. The rest have to be experienced at least once.

Why do you avoid the steamboat? That's always a nice break ride for us.

I don't care for Stitch, but if you have to go on it a trick is to hold up the shouder harness as it is being lowered.

Also, I see on "Stitch Kingdom" that Sounds Dangerous will be closed all of 2010 for refurbishment.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but if you have a young child- avoid the Narnia exhibit at HS. I LOVE NARNIA! And in '08 we were there with our daughter who was not quite two. We went in, thinking it was just an exhibit of props. It was way more, and very cool, but.... the White Witch appears on a sheet of 'ice' and it terrified my dd. She and I bolted and waited for the rest of our crew on a bench. I felt awful. It was her first trip to DW and she was seriously shaken. I never would have taken her in had I known that it was more than just props. Again, really neat effect, but not recommended for the easily frightened.

I avoid the Jungle Cruise and Swiss Family Treehouse, oh and the Tiki Birds at Magic Kingdom, just because they are boring, crowded, and outdated.
I also avoid Mickey and Minnie's house...they are cute but CROWDED and the waits to get in are horrendous! At least they were a few years ago.


I avoid Mission Space at Epcot (the ONLY ride to ever give me motion sickness...and I've ridden a LOT of rides with the potential to give motion sickness) It's really, really cool, but sitting on a bench hanging onto a garbage can afterwards "just in case" is not!

The only thing at Studios I avoid is Fantasmic...it's just not worth the crowds, and I've found a series of great videos of it on YouTube that let you watch the whole thing from beginning to end in high-def and in the comfort of your own home.

I don't avoid anything at Animal Kingdom that I can think of.

i agree. if young children are afraid of heights this is defenately not the best attraction!

The luau wasn't worth the time or the money, I agree that the story line was long and boring!!

As for rides, I would never go to Stitch again and Jungle Cruise was very old looking

Epcot- my kids love this one- they do the masks and the passport they love talking to the cast members and eating around the world. There are very short lines to see Characters throughout the world showcase

France movie could be great but is so dated.
New Canada movie is amazing
We still have to watch the others-

we really liked the new spaceship earth-the movie at the end is real cool

I do not like the Coral reef it is way way way too loud

Animal Kingdom
Bugs life-do not like the stings, the smells and the icly feeling- tried it once-never again
primal twirl- me kids found it quite boring

We loved the planet watch station and Lion King is a do not miss

The bears-boring and Stitch just icky

Astro orbitors is a great ride to go on during the fireworks

I really don't like this park I really can't figure out how to successfully tour it. I do love Beauty and the Beast and my kids like the big rides

What I would recommend avoiding.....

DINOSAUR @ AK
My DS does not scare easily but he was TERRIFIED of the Dinosaur ride at AK. He screamed in absolute fear during the entire ride and I felt awful for bringing him on it. The ride also moves so fast that you can't even properly hold them so they 'feel' secure. I would not recommend this ride for young children.

"Journey to Narnia" @ DHS is not worth the time. It consists of a movie trailer and a few props but nothing amazing. When I went in with my DS and DD we were all bored.

Swiss Family Treehouse & Tiki Room @ MK...were both a let down. My fam will not do them again in future visits.

Kim Possible @ EPCOT WS. My kids loved the tv show so the KP MIssion was something my children "just had to do" on our last trip. The activity litterally dragged on, required A LOT of walking from place to place (I don't mind walking but when you are doing the missions, you don't really get to enjoy each country. You are busy following clues that lead you from place to place...then when you are finally done, you don't want to go back to the countries you visited to take a closer look because you are TIRED) and the surprises are just "okay"...sometimes my kids even said "that's it???".

Avoid Ellen's Energy Adventure at all costs...it was wayyyy too long and extremely boring. I also avoid Star Tours. It's just not worth your time.

I wonder if Disney knows how bad Stitch really is. Who ever came up with that idea should get a flogging.
It's a shame they wasted so much $ to even build it.

My kids actually like it (perhaps the only 2 on the planet?) so we end up going on with them. I put my hands up so the thing can't press on my shoulders. That is so annoying. Worst part is that there is no point to those things pressing down. It's not like the rooms spins or something that you really need to be restrained.

Now I just close my eyes and try to remind myself: I'm in WDW, just sitting and relaxing in the AC.

Disney: Please put something fun there!!!! We're begging!!
