Hi! Traveling to the world in Jan with (2) little girls. Please let me know what we should avoid. Are any of the fireworks too scary? Any rides that might look OK but are a little intense? Example: my daughter has VERY sensitive ears. I will bring plugs for fireworks but I'd love to know if there are other attractions that are loud. She is easily frightened too. We won't be attending the dinosaur ride! Thanks! *UPDATe- they are very afraid of villains, bugs, and the dark (if its scary) Thanks!

Its tough to Be a bug can be scary for little ones. Highlight area beteen the " 's to see why. Don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it yet. "There is a giant tarantula that appears on the screen, and although it is friendly, it does " fire" barbs or something at you, you feel a shot of air. Also, black window spiders drop from the ceiling, and the grasshopper appears with a lot of noise and commotion. "

Also Stitch's Great Escape can be totally gross for little girls ( and big girls ).
I also find The Great Movie Ride to be loud.

I found a lot of the little kids got scared during Fantasmic! It's a great show but it's loud and is villain centric so that may be frightening to some children.

How old are your girls? My son was just about 2 the first time we went and wasn't scared of a thing. Now at age 5 seems to be bothered by things.
If they are old enough you may want to avoid Tower of Terror at the HS if you plan on going there.

I have a kiddo that has sensory issues. We have learned to cover his ears so he does fine with them now. Some of the *off the beaten path* things that bother him:

The cannons that go off at the begining of POC.
The *BLAST* at the end of Figment.
The fireworks at the end of Soarin.
He doesn't mind Wishes or Illuminations if we are in the right place...but Fantasmic is his least favorite. You are really close to them. The scare factor isn't a big deal for him now, but when he was little it was scary with all the evil Villians.
Another unexpected thing that might be an issue is when Ursula comes out at the Little Mermaid. Doesn't bother our kids, but it always seems to send a few kids to tears whenever we see it.

HTH.

The thought that immediately came to mind was to avoid "summer" but i see you are traveling in January. We just returned from a trip to WDW. We have traveled during February once and November twice. As much as I love WDW , I would not plan a trip to the world during the summer again. I am from Georgia and I have never experienced that kind of heat before. Woah :upsidedow. My daughter and her BFF both 13 looked like you had drained all the life out of them by 11:00 am each morning and would ask to leave the parks and in the afternoon you could just look around at everyone and the heat was written all over their faces. WDW is much more enjoyable experience in November. Moreover, Pirates of the Caribean was scary to my daughter when she was 5. On this trip, a young child was very upset on Ellen's Energy Adventure. His parent kept reassuring him that the experience wasn't real life just fiction.

Thank you! They are TERRIFIED of bugs so I know that would not go over well! Why is stitch'd adventure gross? Thx!

Thank you! We are from MA, I think we would wilt if we went in the summer! I'm very excited about January. I know some attractions will be closed but this won't be our last visit and my girls are easy going enough to not "need" to do/see anything. They will do just fine with whatever is available. Thanks for the help!

Can you tell me a little more about Ellen's energy adventure? Thx!

Pirates of the Caribbean ride in MK can sometimes be too much for some children, the canons are loud and its dark in there. Haunted mansion is cute but can frighten also, since it is a haunted mansion, nothing to really scare the crap out of anyone most of its cute but it can be dark and lots of ghosts and creepy touches. Stitch great escape is very dark and your left worrying the whole time what's going on, there's also a hefty set of bars that go over you that make it that much more intense for little ones. Tower of terror is just like the movie and the drop is alot if you know you can't handle drops id stay clear, it's multiple drops. I can't think of much else, of
Course none of these are over the top but from what I read these may be some ones you may want to skip. If fireworks are an issue you could look into a fireworks cruise or watch from the poly resort so you and the kids can still watch them without the huge booms. Good luck :)

My son, at 5, and who has sensory issues, was petrified in the Haunted Mansion. He tried to get on the floor of the buggy to hide. It was very dark in there, and I suppose the thought of ghosts petrified him. We went when he was 10 again. I made him go on the Haunted Mansion. He made it through, but still did not seem to enjoy it. At least he was not on the floor again.

If you have any other advice I would love to hear it! My son has sensory issues also; we went to Disney 2 years ago and the cannons at POC were not good and the fireworks at the end of Soarin had him in tears...so it sounds like he is similar. I was planning on taking him on the Figment ride but I probably will not now (I was not aware of the blast, but just looked it up and it would not go over well at all). If you have any other things to avoid or be mindful of with a sensory sensitive kid I'd love to hear!

You mama's are amazing. I'm so glad that these post is helping others, too!

Maelstrom. My DD doesn't have any extreme sensory issues, but after riding that on her first day when 4 (almost 5), she didn't trust us going into anything else that looked like it could possibly be scary -- Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, etc., she was afraid to get on any of these.

She did try Splash Mountain, because some preschool friends of hers had talked about it, and so she wanted to try it too, until right at boarding, when she almost backed out. Then, it went into the dark area with the happy (to me) music playing in the background and DD freaked out. (That also was after the Maelstrom terror.)

Even at older ages, she found Haunted Mansion scary, though I think she said she can do it this trip (at 9). We'll see... I honestly don't see it as being that full of sensory overload, though. I think it's just the whole ride concept she doesn't like.

Issues mentioned by other posters -- the cannons in PotC and Illuminations really bothered her (the sudden noise.)

My ds was terrified in Stitch's Great Escape. I had to take him out a few minutes after it started.

Just wondering how you got out since you are each in individual shoulder (think roller coaster) harnesses. My kids have never done this and they are 9 and 12. Thinking of trying to get them to try it this year.
