What to avoid at Aldi?

I have seen lots of threads about what deals and steals there are at Aldi (and to those who suggested the chicken nuggets, Thank You! I never would have tried them without your suggestion. They are a yummy treat!), but none about what is best left on the shelves there...

My item to avoid is the canned sardines. Worse than cat food. My DH eats sardines frequently and said that these were so sub par he couldn't believe it.

I've had pretty good luck at Aldi's. No complaints except one, the canned mixed vegetables. It was 75% carrots. I won't be getting that again.

I really don't have much complaints about the Aldi. Thre meat selection is lacking

Canned chili. Bought once for dh to put on hot dogs- ick!! Of course, I will say, I've never bought any other brand of canned chili, so maybe they are all gross. Other than that, love Aldi!

I got the dishwasher gel once. NEVER AGAIN!! It gunked up my dishwasher, left spots on all the dishes, and it took SEVERAL rounds of dishwasher cleaning agents to get it back to normal!

I buy the flour tortillas every time I go -- no problems.

I'm pretty selective about what I buy and really haven't had a lot of problems. I didn't think the coffee was very good, but I usually go high end on coffee. Ditto for the bread.

I wouldn't buy the meat b/c I don't buy "fresh" meat sold in stores without butcher shops, such as Walmart and Target.

We used to by the brownie mix all the time. it was great.

Then they changed the packaging and made them and they had a terrible after taste. Terribly disappointing!

salsa isn't so hot. kind of bland and flavorless.

This thread is kind of funny. One person says to not buy something and another says that they like it.

My DH loves the salsa from Aldis.

My DH loves the salsa from Aldis.

We like the salsa too - I buy both the mild & the hot (I prefer the mild and my kids like it hot).

I love Aldi and we have been shopping there for over 10 years. I love their guarantee too - so if something is "off" to you - take it back for a refund!

We buy milk, eggs, cereal, condiments, pasta, diced tomatoes, cheese, butter, cottage cheese, yogurt, rice, lunch meat, and stir fry vegetables on a regular basis. We watch the produce and will buy it if it looks good. We typically don't buy meat because our local meat market is so reasonable.

At one point last summer our Aldi had whole frozen lobster. We didn't try it but wish we had. Did anyone try it and like it?

I bought this 4-pack of frozen sirloin steaks for $5.99. I let them defrost, put some steak rub on them, and oven-grilled them (7 minutes or so on each side) and my 12 year old absolutely FLIPPED out! He loved them and begged me to get them again. I figure 6 bucks for 4 steaks is a winning deal no matter what! Especially because he's a 5'7" 90 lb kid so he can use the protein!

Mark myself and DH down as salsa lovers, too. I also can't live without the blue corn chips. I haven't tried their cereal, but I've been craving cereal lately so I may soon!
