What the heck is with the rehab schedule!

We will be going from August 6-12, and as soon as I found out BTMR will close during the time, I made the plan so we can visit MK on August 7 on the last day for BTMR. DINOSAUR is a huge blow though. I loved that ride, and I will really miss it this time.

My family is there the week of the 22nd .... Sheeeeesh ....

I'm 45 years old; first Disney World trip was when I was 5ish. This will be the first time that I don't get to ride Small World.

As I said to my wife, I'm going to miss that sentimentally loved crappy cheesy ride ... Joking aside, I'm secretly heartbroken :-(.

A rant is justified. There was a time when an army of cast members would descend on the Magic Kingdom each night, that would clean, paint and rehab attractions that would re-open on time the next day. Only on a rare occasion would an attraction be closed for more than a day. Now there are many more attractions and many more parks and the army is gone. Closing attractions is a way for Disney manage labor cost and manage its rehab budget, which is vastly underfunded. If Disney were to increase its rehab budget, the cost would be passed on to its customers, who are already stretched to the limit and bellyaching over the high cost of going to Disney. There's no easy answer.

I somehow doubt they managed to do 6 weeks worth of rehab overnight back in the good old days.

The easy answer is to understand that as the rides age they are needing more work, and not quick fixes to hold them together. It stinks when a ride goes down during your trip, I've missed Big Thunder Mountain before and I'm going to miss it my next trip too. But out of 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, 2 mini golf courses, 3 regular golf courses, and a couple of entertainment districts, something is bound to be closed for maintenance at any given time.

I'm focusing on the positive, Soarin will be reopened and FROWay will be too.

This is exactly how I feel!!! LOL!!! This is the one that is gutting me. I drag my family on it multiple times. They are probably secretly thrilled.

Why not focus on what you can do instead of can't. All the new offerings at AK, new soarin, Frozen stuff at Norway, new show at MK, and a completed Disney Springs.

Aging attractions do need attention and probably more than a day, but the attention needed has been significantly drawn out, as compared to years gone by. The maintenance staff growth has lagged way behind the expansion of the parks, which has caused more and more attractions to be down for longer and longer periods of time.

Do you have inside knowledge as to what needs to be done to the attractions? Or the estimated length of time the work will need? If not, it sounds like another way to bash Disney for whatever reason. I'm sure there is more that goes into the decisions of what attractions need maintenance and how long that needs to take then any of us outsiders can begin to accurately guess.

Have had relatives here and there who've worked for WDW in the past, though no I have no inside knowledge. I do know that in the last 20 years, R'nR and TT at DHS, are highly technical and require a tremendous amount of maintenance, though these attractions rarely go down and when down, it's rarely for 6 months at a time. The reason, both attractions are vital to the success of the park. PMI's and maintenance are done on a nightly and even daily basis.

My son is NOT so secretly thrilled about, so much so that he did a touch down endzone dance :sad2: when I told him about it.

We haven't had a trip in quite a while where there wasn't something closed, so this coming up trip will be no different. I'm just so thankful it's not Pirates, it was down last year when we were there. Earlier this year it was down each time our FP time came up, so I've got my fingers crossed I get tor ride this trip.

I understand the need to do repairs and renovations. Just seems like the late August-September period is getting hit really hard, especially to have BTMRR and Small World closed in MK. One or the other would be far easier to take.

This was my exact point. I know rehabs are needed but there is absolutely no reason to do so many major attractions at the same time.

Also. We visit different times of the year and frankly doing major rehabs while summer is in full swing is just plain annoying. Spread them out. Pick January or February for a few.

I feel your pain. 3 years ago when we went to MK, BTMR was closed for refurb. The next year we went to DL and BTMR was closed there for refurb. We took a year off this past summer and went to US and IOA and decided to go back to WDW this August and yep, BTMR is closed for refurb again. I can't win with that ride.:guilty:

Summer rush is on the down side and they've got to beat the Holiday Thanksgiving/Christmas rush.

You mean when they already had Norway and Soarin down?
