What temp do you keep your house set at in the winter?

I keep it at 71 during the day and when I'm on the computer I still have an electric heater on my feet! I hate being cold. At night the thermostat is set to go to 62 or 65. but it cranks back up about 30 mins before I get up again.

JMAC, I'm in Sacramento so we probably have comparable weather.

We keep our thermostat at 72 when we're home and turn it down to 67 or 68 at night. We used to turn it down to 64 or so at night but we have a 2 year old who kicks her blanket off so I like to keep it a little warmer. I have her sleep in those full body blanket sleepers with feet and I go in at night before I turn in to put the blanket back on her, but some mornings she is still cold when I get her up. Wish I could train her to keep her blanket on!!

Same here. I crank up my electric blanket and husbanc likes it around 65 at night. Not to bad weather today.

We are in Ohio and we keep ours at 66. There is always someone here so we don't adjust it during the day/night. We will be moving at the first of the year and will be moving to a house that has electric baseboard heaters with individual thermostats in each room - to keep the costs down, the bedrooms will be kept very low, the living room will be off (we will never be in there except to cut through) and the kitchen and family room will be about the same as it is now. If we get cold at night, I will just have to buy a few more blankets and we do have a couple of small electric heaters that we bought a couple of years ago when our furnace went out in the coldest part of the winter.

68 on our thermostat. We have a wood burner and a fireplace that we use when it gets really cold, though.

You know you get sick more often if your house is over-heated. The dry air dries out your nose so you get germs more easily. We keep the house at 68 during the day and 62 at night. We aren't up to feel how cold it is anyway. In the summer we open windows until it is too hot and humid and then we keep it at 78 because we have high ceilings and ceiling fans.

We used plastic on the windows last year and this year my husband changed the weather strip in the windows to a thicker kind and we don't need plastic. We're in Iowa.

We are in CT&VT. When we are home, the heat is set at either 62 or 64. When we are not home we turn it down to 50. I can't imagine what the bills would be like with it set at 72! (Considering that it can easily be 10 or 15 below zero overnight in Vermont).

Yep, sounds about right. I grew up in Burlington VT but now live in Indiana and my wife is angry at me all winter because I keep the house so cold.
She doesn't understand that I'm actually uncomfortable at 68 or 69 degrees and unless she wants me running around the house naked all winter then she should wear slippers and a sweatshirt...

Yep, 64 degrees around the clock...if I ever get an automatic thermostat I'll set it for 64 during the day and 58 at night (like to sleep in the cold). BUT...I have to confess we have a small space heater in the bathroom for when we're showering, etc. :)

I pretty much keep it at 68/69 all the time.

On average many days I don't need to turn the heat on unless its under 50 outside. Somehow the house retains its heat really well. But if I do turn it up its 68 days then in the evening it will go up between 69-70 and back down to 68 when we go to sleep.

I'm not sure if its because I'm from MA and it used to be cold here lol but I can run around in shorts and a t-shirt at 70. Honestly it does all depend on how well insulated your home is. We recetly had our house reinsulated and it made a huge difference.

We have our temp set at 65 during the day, In the evening we turn the heat down to 60 degrees.

We keep ours at around 65/66 all the time. I have a friend who won't go below 72 in her house because she wants to continue to wear tank tops and shorts around the house.

I'm always in a sweatshirt, comfy pants, and typically a t-shirt under the sweatshirt, and socks and slippers so I never get cold.

We do have a tiny space heater in the boys bedroom in the basement they turn on sometimes, but usually that's when it gets super cold out.

So, what do you keep yours at? Do you lower it to keep your bills down? Or are you not a cold blooded person and you'd rather have it cooler?

I like having it cooler, personally. I don't like getting hot when I'm running around the house cleaning so I'd rather take a layer off, versus keep the house warmer.

What about you?

Ohio here. We actually have not turned ours on yet (we use an Edenpure for the living room where we congregate the most) but decided this morning that we have held out long enough! :goodvibes Tonight it comes on!

We keep it around 54-55 during the "awake/at home" hours and historically have kept it about 50 at night or when not home. We are all adults (much warmer when our child was young). Yes, we may need a throw when sitting and socks or slippers (no bare feet :rotfl: for sure)! I use more pajamas than gowns during the winter! :)

If adult company visits we do up it to about 65 (only while they are here) and if our young nieces/nephews visit or stay we do put it at 68-69 (which is where we kept it when DS was young).

Found this funny

I read that and thought, "Well, who wouldn't be?" :lmao:

It isn't the cold that gets me, but the wind. If it wasn't for the wind, I would have still be running around in shorts and t-shirt. It's been toasty warm all of November finishing off in the low 50's. Jeans and a short sleeved shirt with the window partially down for driving anywhere, but if it is for running to the gas station, that calls for a winter coat as the wind will chill you down to the bone.

It's finally fallen in temps here in Western PA, but I think it's still unseasonably warm during the day.

60 overnight, 64 for several hours in the morning, 62 during the day while kids are at school, 64 evening and then it bumps up to around 66 during the typical bath/shower times.

I keep slippers on my feet. If we are sitting watching TV the kids will usually have snuggies on. When it's particularly cold we may use a space heater to warm the bathroom before the girls start their showers to get it nice and toasty in there.

I don't know the exact temperature because DH and I are polar opposites. I won't put the heat on during the day which drives DH up the wall! I like a cold house. If I had my way I'd sleep with the bedroom window open all winter long! DH likes to have the house roasting hot so as soon as he gets home the heating goes on and by 9:00PM I'm sweltering.

The next morning I'll get up and switch the heating off and round and round we'll go...

Since I live in Florida I really hate having to turn on the heat when it gets cold and believe me it does at times. Ideally I like the house at 68-70 and luckily with house open I can keep it around 72 or so. When it gets warmer here lately it has gotten to 78 in the house. We keep it 76 in summer so that gets a tad warm at 78 :lmao:

We are in Eastern Ontario (Canada).

We keep the house at 64-66 when we are around and 58 overnight/when we go away.

We have a 4 year old and a 6 month old....the 4 year old usually runs around in no pants! The cold doesn't bother her! DH wears shorts year round. On top of that we have a 150 year old farmhouse with an unfinished (unheated) basement and all wood floors!

66 on the downstairs furnance and we haven't turned the upstairs one on yet since we move here 2 years ago and I open the bedroom window every night all winter. I like the bedroom to be about 55-60 max. We have a gas fireplace that takes the chill off in the morning otherwise we really never have either furnace kick on.
Now air conditioning is a whole other matter!
