What temp. are schools required to delay?

I'm not sure what the official policy is, but we had delays on Mon and Tues, no school Wed because of the snow we got, and then another delay this morning. I am assuming it is when there is a Wind Chill Advisory.

I don't know of any of our schools ever being delayed or closed because of cold. They don't even close very often because of snow. Now, I also can't think of any time we have ever had -40 wind chill. We have had some -10-20 wind chill and school goes on. If it is less than 30 (or maybe 32) they do have inside days so they don't go out for recess and they don't have to wait outside for school to start.

Apparently there are no overall requirements or rules regarding when schools are closed due to inclement weather (including sub-zero wind chills). At least that is what they reported on the news here in NE Ohio this week. It is up to the individual school districts as to whether or not to delay or cancel school on any given day.

Well keep in mind that I'm Canadian so they don't close the schools if it gets really cold. There are parts of Canada that reach -40.

However, if my child was like OP's where it was a health issue to bring the child out, I would definately keep them home

RIght here, right now it is ....-30 with windshield, and supposed to go BELOW -40 tonight. I kept my kids home Monday anyway. We never close. They never miss. I have to say, it was a great day, and I felt ZERO guilt.

Our local districts here in NE PA have been calling 2 hour delays almost every day this week for temps around 0 and windchills in the negative single digits. All of our students are bused, except those whose parents choose to drive them.

Just got word that tomorrow is another 2 hour delay. Joy Joy.
