I started summer jobs at 14. My first one was probably the best one - I was the babysitter for a family who lived down the street. Their daughter was 8 and since she was an only child and spent most of her time around adults, she was like a little adult herself. Easiest child I ever had to babysit for - and considering I had 5 younger siblings that I could have been home babysitting for free, getting this job was like hitting the jackpot. I watched her all summer while her Mom and Dad worked. The next summer, when I was 15, they took me to Hawaii with them for 2 weeks, and New York City for a long weekend. Loved that job!! Interestingly enough I lost touch with the family but then the girl turned up on Love Connection or one of those shows - was it Studs? Something like that, some cheesy dating show along those lines. She was such a smart kid I thought she'd be a doctor or something, but thens he turns up sort of bimbo-esque. Weird. I figured maybe it was just the way the show was edited.
I also had a cool summer job at the beach (Ocean City, Md) one year. I worked as a waitress in a crab house - anyone local to the area knows Phillips Crab House. That is where I worked. This was back in the days when people could bring in their own beer and just sit there and eat crabs and drink beer all night. That job was hard, hard work - carrying trays of crabs and hustling all night because the place was packed constantly. But it was fun being at the beach for a summer.
After I graduated college I had a job at Club Med in Mexico working as a recreation counselor - which basically meant I played volleyball on the beach with a bunch of drunks all day.

Those were good times too.
Sadly, these days my summer job is just my regular job. I do look forward to going back to summer jobs when I retire, or doing different work when it appeals to me or when I feel like doing it instead of having to go off every day to the same thing.
