Let's start a list of all the stores that are using the surcharge so we are informed before hand and not surprised at the store.

I know most gas stations charge more for credit. I am not aware of any stores doing so as of yet.

I am interested to know as well. If a place like Amazon starts it, I am in trouble.

However, I can move to cash or check. I only use CC for the rewards. If that isn't a benefit anymore, I won't use it.

Gas stations in NJ have been doing this for years. You practically need a spreadsheet to figure out what stations have the best prices cash vs credit plus the fact that they change their prices everyday you can never tell what you're going to pay.

I live in CT and they cannot do a surcharge, but they can get around it by offering a cash DISCOUNT and charging more for using plastic!

Or the Gas Buddy app, which is what I always use. lol Although it normally doesn't say cash price or credit price.

Some states have laws against this and Florida is one of them. Below is a link to check if your state is one.

California
Colorado
Connecticut
Florida
Kansas
Maine
Massachusetts
New York
Oklahoma
Texas

Looks like CA is one of them :) Wish that extended to gas stations.

I love my gas buddy app! It has saved me so much at times by directing me maybe a block or two to get a better price.

Yes, offering a discount to those who use cash, will bring more cash-paying customers for sure.

So.....if I can save more than 1.00 for every 100.00 I spend using my Disney Visa, I should pay cash and put the savings in a Disney designated jar? Hmm, but then I won't spend as much. (I guess I'll be saving more for Disney)

Thanks to the free market place, no major chain is likely to do this. It is such a turn off to consumers, that if one major chain did it, other chains would simply boast how they don't do it, at that chain's expense.

I use my Disney Visa for everything and pay it off each month, just to get the reward points. I'm another person that will start doing all cash and checks again it they start charging me more to use my card.

I, also, use my credit card for everything. Although, if I had to start paying cash to save on extra charges, I'll probably actually spend less.

I know with the gas stations that offer a cheaper rate for cash, I won't even use them.

So maybe, in the long run, I'd actually save more! :)

from what i read, the store must post on the door if they charge the surcharge so you should know walking in. wonder how many people will turn around when they see that sign? bet i would...

For a while most stores will not, but over time the charge will creep in. I know we have to pay the card companies 3 to 4 % of charges where I work so that extra is figured in in even if you pay cash.

I live in Maine, one of the "not allowed" states. It's easy for them to get around, they just offer a cash discount.

I know they say they don't or won't, but I'm thinking most stores already charge this, but its built into their profits so it doesn't really seem like an ADDED charge to shoppers.

Cost of using credit card is built inti the price AND NOW an additional credit card surcharge. HMMM sounds like double dipping.

My response to them his I'll pay cash WHEN you reduce the price 3%.

Surcharges are supposed to be illegal since the charging gas became so big. Giving a discount for cash is the way they are getting round it. Having a set minimum to use a card is also illegal
