Some friends of ours are taking a spontaneous trip to WDW, landing aon NYE t the airport

Sorry. Can't edit on mobile device and hit send too soon. They are arriving at the airport around 1:30 NYE afternoon, staying on property. What are their chances of getting into MK after ME to resort?

Some chance. Last year we arrived at the MCO airport around 12:20pm. Headed to ME as soon as we could. Got the the hotel, checked in (rooms were not ready) and did the resort bus to the MK. Arrived at the MK around 3pm. Heard that around 3:30pm they closed the MK to ANY new arrivals. So we just made it. Worked out perfect since the Christmas parade was running at 3:30pm.

So there is a slightly better than 50/50 chance of being able to get in.

NYE is always crowded especially at MK. It usually does shut down on NYE. It will probably open up later. If I were you, I would tell them to make a Plan B.

Staying on property they are guaranteed a park but they might not end up at MK.

Tell them to take their bands because they will be checking that they are resort guests.

What stage closure is MK expected to hit on NYE?

1) Plan upon Phase-4 (total) closure on NYE.
2) As an example,
. . . today, Saturday, at one point AK was 4,000 below total capacity (38,000 attendace)
. . . today, Saturday, at one point DHS was 3,000 below total capacity
. . . no word on MK or Epcot
3) Just think what NYE will be!

Rusty--What are the new lettered closures?

I agree, there is some chance. The parks may close at 11am and then reopen when some of those people leave later on in the day. I would guess that on NYE, it will reach capacity by 4pm because people coming in later will not leave.

I'm assuming that they just want to catch the NYE fireworks? I would suggest a plan B- either watch the MK fireworks from elsewhere (beach @ Poly?), or head to Epcot to catch the fireworks there instead.

Today, no parks closed to capacity.

Yesterday and Xmas, MK closed to Phase A, which still confuses me a bit (I've seen conflicting info). All I know for sure is that if you're staying at a Disney Hotel, you'll be admitted under this designation. Beyond Phase A, no one really knows at this point.

While phase 4 (or its equivalent) is possible at MK on NYE, I will say it hasn't happened in recent years. Now, before you all who claim to have been there and know it closed call me a liar, understand that, in the parks, a lot of misinformation is spread. Generally, the only CMs who know the most up-to-date info are the ones manning the entrances, ticket booths, and guest services. I've been there too during this time and have heard that the park's fully closed from CMs only to see guests still entering the park. When I asked a Main Entrance CM, I got something to the tune of "we're only admitting resort guests." Last year, MK remained open all day to Disney Resort Guests on NYE.

Here's the strict data from last year's NYE per WDWMAGIC (it gets this info from the Hub, so it's very accurate):

9:40am - MK closed to Phase 2
11:04am - MK closure elevated to Phase 3
8:00pm - MK reopens to all

Here's the difference between the two phases:

PHASE TWO Admission is limited to:
Disney Resort Guests (including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and guests arriving by bus from the Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels)
Annual, Premier and Premium Annual Passholders
Guests with Hopper tickets coming from another park
Guests re-entering the park
Guests with dining reservations
Magic Kingdom Guests with reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or The Pirates League
Guests using Walt Disney World Resort Transportation will be admitted.
Guests with pre-purchased 1 day Magic Kingdom tickets

PHASE THREE Admission is limited to:
Disney Resort Guests (including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and guests arriving by bus from the Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels)
Annual, Premier and Premium Annual Passholders
Guests with dining reservations
Magic Kingdom Guests with reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or The Pirates League

Again, I'd still have a plan b, but hope that helps a bit. Mind you, this could all change with these new phases.

Rusty...so is that rare for AK/DHS to have that many guests?

Anyone know if they're allowing this? On the 4th the would not allow non Poly guests onto the beach.

That's probably because there isn't much beach at the Poly right now, due to all the construction. I would imagine that they are doing their best to restrict usage to Poly guests until that winds up next year.

I would view from CR or GF rather than Poly, at least for this year, if you are looking for a non-park venue. But I definitely agree you should have a plan B.
