Driving from MA in July, south via Rt 95 and north via the inland route. I am wondering what speed everyone drives and what is pushing the limit as far as being 'caught' speeding.

Thanks all!

Can't help you about 95... but once on property, there are many speed traps... so be careful there.

too fast

LOL!

Actually I have never driven that route. I do know from my dad that the Fl Highway patrol can be agressive. He recommends no more then 5 to 10 over the speed limit, but he goes the speed limit.

We drove from Phila, Pa last week and took I-95 all the way down and back. We averaged 80 mph and there were cars passing me! As long as you travel in a pack of 3 to 4 cars you should be OK.

We drive 95 all the time and we keep the cruise set at 5 MPH over the posted speed limit. I have been told that 5 to 10 MPH over is not going to get you a ticket, but I don't like to push it pass the 5 MPH. I would rather get there a few minutes later then pay a hefty fine or worse!!

Id say we do similar to OKW91. However it seems we always have something slowing us down a bit whether its traffic, fog, downpours, etc... So obviously we have to drive according to conditions.
You gotta love that speed limit down south though? Big change from 55.

Okay, I'll bite: what speed limit down south?

Here in Louisiana, the speed limits range from 55 to 75 but are usually 60 near cities and 70 farther away...but that's the interstate only of course! :)

SEVENTY FIVE! Yikes, I don't think I've seen that speed limit since I was a child.

From NY to WDW on I-95 I'd say I average about 75-80 mph, this includes stops and the areas where the limit is 55 and radar detectors are illegal. If you plan on speeding I highly recommend a radar detector, based on my past 2 trips down, I've only noticed CT and NY using laser (I have a laser detector too, but it's pretty much there to tell you that you're nailed) Most of the rest of the states were using K and Ka band radar, a few instant-on/Stalker types but for the most part I was getting about 1/2 mile range on them. A good rule of thumb is 10mph over and you should be fine.

I'm usually at 70-75 mph (where the speed limit is 70). Even at that speed, cars, trucks, SUV's etc go flying on by. They have to be doing 85-90. It's scary sometimes--.
In all our trips, can't say I ever saw many Hiway Patrol or State Police anywhere except Virginia. Those folks seem to take some notice of speeding cars--.
