Truthfully, we were not impressed with HBD at all. We went back in 2003 for my DH's 50th birthday (his choice). The food was mediocre at best, and the service was downright awful (five tables occupied in the entire restaurant and we were there for almost an hour and forty-five minutes). I would go with Cape May (our second favorite character meal) and Prime Time.

I just posted this on another thread asking about the HBD. Please excuse the copy/paste :)

The Brown Derby is very nice. It was a must do for me for years, but lately I've been underwhelmed, not so much with the food or the service, they've always been great, it's just that the selections haven't really done much for me lately.

If the menu looks good to you, go for it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Here is the menu.

I'd choose HBD. We think the food is far superior to any of the other theme park restaurants & think it holds it's own with the other signatures. It does still have a more theme park atmosphere than the other sigs & the prices are lower if paying OOP.

Personally, we'd rather have one superior meal than two average meals, but everyone doesn't feel that way. (I know my sisters family's don't.) Neither is right or wrong it's just personal opinion. It really depends on what your family looks for in a meal.

ETA: If you prefer a quieter dining environment, ask for the back room at HBD. I'm pretty sure it's called the Bamboo Room. There's only a few tables, so it's much quieter.

I'd choose late lunch or a dinner at PTC. We've had some fun times there and the food is reasonable. :thumbsup2

Our experience at the Brown Derby (11/09) was simply awful. Service was lousy, the steaks not cooked as ordered and substandard quality, at that. AND, to add insult to injury, the grapefruit cake was stale. We spent a lot of money for a lousy meal experience and I can't imagine going back in the near future.

My family really enjoys the Cape May breakfast a lot. My husband was not interested in the Brown Derby menu at all and chose Prime Time over Brown Derby for our next DHS meal. So for us it would be Cape May & Prime Time.

I love Cape May breakfast and would recommend it whole heartedly.

It's been a long time since I went to Brown Derby - it was fine, nothing amazing as I remember.

50's Primetime is fun and the food is good - not fancy, but good.
If you want something a little more upscale for 1 TS at DHS, why not try Mama Melrose? I've always enjoyed the food there.

I would say Cape May breakfast and 1 credt TS is a better deal...HBD just doesn't seem "grand" enough to me for 2 TS.

Also, depending upon your day and schedule you can always head back to the BW area for Dinner...Kouzinna and the Brewery are good for 1 TS.

OR if you want a better 2TS meal...have quick breakfast at your resort or DHS and go to BW area to Flying Fish for 2TS dinner. I haven't been, but have heard nothing by rave reviews about it on the boards. I was thinking of going, but we have a toddler and I'm not sure how his behavior will be and who would want a cranky 3yo (me and other gusts) in a signature restaurant?

Another thought...the dress in signature dining restaurants is usually above normal park fare (shorts & T-shirt). Most people probably go back to their resort after a day in the park to freshen up before going to a signature meal. If you're in the park all day and going right to dinner - a more casual place like 50s Primetime or Mama Melrose might be better.

Mine: 2 TS meals would take up too much time on my last day. I'd just do a late-ish lunch at 50's PT (actually, if its departure day, I think any TS meal takes way too much time & we never do one) HBD is good but nothing special.

DD: Skip HBD - didn't care for the food although the atmosphere is really nice. A vote for 50's PT and Cape May here.
