2-story (3 if you count the fully finished basement) single-family home we had custom built 20 years ago on 4 acres of land. Not in a development.

Typical detached subdivision cookie cutter single story ranch house. Builder built 7 (including 3 that are a mirror image of my floor plan) with this floor plan out of 32 homes in the subdivision. Neighbor's house to the east is 15 feet away and a two story, and neighbor's house to the west is 15 feet away and a two story.

Never understood how they came up with this name. It is either attached or detached, unless it if hang off a cliff.
Here they are called duplexes and they are firmly attached.

A Fraternity brother of mine inherited 20 Sears kit houses from his Grandfather. His Grandfather build them all on land he owned and they have been rental homes for the past 100 years. With land, each cost his Grandfather less than $1,000. My friend says if he sold them today the Capital Gains tax would be mind boggling on a $20,000 investment.
