DD's dorm room is 10 X 17 with one wall with closets and sink across it. May make the dimentions smaller. I have no idea what size rug to get. If it matters she has been tripled so I am imagining will have a set of bunks and a single in the room as not sure if lofting the single is allowed.

Any info would be appreciated.

Are you looking for a rug for the center of the room to give it the most "comfy" feeling possible?? If so I think I would start with a 5x7 and then perhaps add a smaller on one side of the room since its so long. But since it's only 10' across with beds I think a 5' rug should be wide enough.

I would also start out with a 5x7. Menards had some a few weeks ago- and they were the best pricing ($15 and $20) that I've seen on them.

It really depends where they want the rug. DD and her roommate want it for in front of the futon. We also got DD just a teeny tiny rug for under her desk (it was about $3).

Whenever my kids have been in a shared room I've always waited until they are moved in and then told them to go to Overstock and pick one out. Since I have a boy, I've found that the indoor/outdoor ones work best. Maybe girls are just as bad - I don't know.

It's just difficult to have 2 to 3 mismatched differing sized rugs. Even if your daughter wants one only for her area, she won't know the size until they figure out the room configuration.

With your child in a triple, please remember not everyone is a carpet/rug person. I personally would buy one small enough to put in front of her bed. The bunks are usually separated and three small area's are created.

the other girls have the TV, Micro and Fridge so DD said she would buy the rug. thought it would be simple but now not so sure. I don't mind buying more than one for everyone, just not sure what to get. Maybe 2- 5X7 and a small for in front of the sink? OH I just don't know!@#$%

Hey neighbor! Don't live too far from you...next town. My DS went to school last hear as a freshman and can feel your confusion :confused3. Don't know how to answer the size of carpet as that is something we did not need to supply. The rooms also came with micro fridges. At any rate, wanted to say that DS was not allowed to bunk the beds. He was in a triple and they had the three beds, three desks and three dressers in the room. The beds could be somewhat lofted though. They also couldn't keep their doors open (fire hazard) so meeting people was tougher. I digress.

I probably wouldn't buy anything until you know exactly what the layout is and what it looks like as far as bed configuration. One 5x7 rug should be perfect if it is one huge open space in the middle, but if there are defined areas, you may want several smaller rugs to define the spaces.

Kind of funny because I'm in the same boat with my son. Rooming with two hish school buddies ,tripled in a double room. They're supplying microwave and fridge so I said I'd get the rug. I'm going 5x7. Figure that if it's not enough, with him coming home the first weekend for his girlfriend's bday party, I can always buy another one for him to take back.

For my sons dorm we went to Lowes and they have 9x12 rugs that are remnants that have been bound, they are nice. I think we paid $100.

When I lived in the dorms we picked up some remnant wall to wall carpet for dirt cheap. We then used a utility knife and finished the room with wall to wall carpet for like $50.

I recall just calling carpet places asking if they had remnant rolls and asked for the cheapest.

My wife and her roommates picked up carpet samples and ducked tape them into a mosaic carpet. The sample were free. They called carpet places and asked if they had any they no longer needed.

Have no idea what size you should buy. I do suggest you buy it once you move her in. This way you aren't taking up valuable car packing space with a rolled up rug.
