What should the USA VS Canada derby be called? On September 5th (8pm ET on FS1/TSN/Unimas) , the USA will face Canada in Nashville for a World Cup Qualifier match. Americans and Canadians have always had a love/hate rivalry in men’s soccer. However, as far as I’m aware, there is no name for this rivalry. So I wanted to ask all Americans and Canadians (soccer fans or not) on the Disboards, what name would you give to the derby? Be as creative as you want. Discuss the game itself on my WCQ thread. Thanks. ⚽🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦

The Golden Horseshoe

*
The Golden Horseshoe Soccer League is the regional league for the south region; The league is made up of:

  • Niagara Soccer Association
  • Hamilton & District Soccer Association
  • Peel Halton Soccer Association
*Niagara river flows over the Horseshoe falls

* soccer is not a a U. S. game, but the game of horseshoes gain strength and popularity in the colonies and the US leads the world in tournament organation.

* in final perspective....Canada gets no respect on the nigara river even though Horseshoe falls is the biggest and the US gets no respect as a late comer to the culture of soceer.

Will you be watching the game tomorrow?

no...I just love pop culture challenges.....college football season now and at the end of the year the same teams meet to compete for a traditional award/trophy/item that relates to their decades/centuries of competing.

I am too old to understand or want to understand soccer....it comes across as very complex, much in the same manner I don't watch hockey. I use to own a PDX timbers neck scarf so I could load early on to a alaska airlines flight though

My other thread has the details on the qualifiers if you become interested later on. I hope your college teams win.:-)

that works.....The Oregon treaty......could be a maple leaf and beaver trophy.... or

FIFTY FOUR FORTY OR FIGHT....do they use the word fight in socceer matches. ???

n June 15, 1846, Britain and the United States sign the Treaty of Oregon establishing the 49th parallel as the primary international boundary in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1818, the entire region, including what is now Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, and large portions of British Columbia, has been under joint occupancy, in which citizens of both countries travel and trade freely. In 1845, Americans adopt the phrase "Fifty Four Forty or Fight!", referring to the latitude line of 54 degrees and 40 minutes, a more northern border that would give the U.S. a large portion of what is Canada today. However, the U.S. proves unwilling to actually go to war over this issue, because it is facing war with Mexico on the southern border. So the U.S. and Britain compromise by extending the 49th parallel border -- long established east of the Rockies -- all the way to the Pacific. In the only exception to the 49-degree line, both parties agree to allow the border to swing south around Vancouver Island, which gives Britain all of Vancouver Island. The mainland border between the U.S. and Canada will remain unchanged from that time onward.

With the latest rivalry game next Sunday at 3pm ET (Telemundo, Universo, Paramount+, Sportsnet, RDS 2), any new suggestions on a rivalry name? Since it will be below freezing, I was trying to think of something clever about the American Bison and Canadian Moose. :confused3 ⚽🇨🇦🇺🇸

Bugaboo Creek would have been a great sponsor for the rivalry. It’s a shame that the restaurant chain is no longer in existence. 🙁 Snowbird Chicken Classic (American Bald Eagle vs Canadian Goose)?🤣

With our next official rivalry match coming in June (Concacaf Nations League/Concacaf Gold Cup), any new thoughts on what our rivalry should be called?

To me, a derby is a bunch of cars running around a track smashing into each other with the last one running the winner... :rotfl2:
