My friend asked me about this and I told her I would ask here for her.
We are in 10th grade. There is one guy, "S", that liked my friend, "K", last year. We are not sure if he still does, but it is very possible. We think he likes another friend of mine,"E", but she has a boyfriend, so he won't (or should I say can't) ask her to it. There is a holiday ball a few days before christmas that my school is having. K is afraid that S will ask her (I know, the pains of having a guy want to go to a dance with you
LOL). She doesn't like S anymore than friends at the very most, but she does NOT want to go to the ball with him. She can't tell him that she already has a date because she doesn't and if he goes to the ball, he will find out that she lied. It is kind of tricky situation. How do you nicely tell someone that you don't want to go to a dance with them? She is the type that hates to say no to anyone. If she knew he was going to ask her, she would try and avoid him. If he does ask, what should she say without being mean? We were trying to think of solutions on the bus, but couldn't think of any. Unless you count the ones that sounded incredibly mean (and we didn't even have the intentions of being mean). TIA!!!

-- any excuse sounds like "Please ask me again sometime." Just say no, and he'll figure it out -- he sounds like a smart guy (after all, he likes your friend, so he must be smart, right?
)
