What should be done about the microwave?

My sister's 9-year old microwave died before Christmas. They went out and bought a new one ($280). Didn't have time to install it so it sat in the box. Someone mentioned maybe they should have the old one repaired. (They thought it might not be fixable.) They take old microwave to repair shop and are told it just needs a new switch. $75 please! She thinks it's great and will take back her "new" microwave. Her husband goes to pick it up and the repair tech brings it from the back room on a cart and proceeds to knock it off onto the floor. The door won't even close now.
Should the repair shop reimburse them some money?
I think they should. It's like an auto accident. If someone hits your 9 year old car you don't get full price but you get something.
What do you think?

the repair tech knocked the newly repaired microwave on to the floor damaging it further? Absolutely they should be getting it repaired or replaced for free.
What has the repair shop offered them? I would push to get it replaced.
