What shoes???

Shoes, shoes, shoes... I am trying to figure out what shoes to plan on wearing at the parks when we are there. I know a lot of people like crocs, but they just don't work for me. I was planning on wearing tennis shoes but am concerned about having to walk around in wet shoes if it rains or if we happen to get soaked on a ride (we are hoping!). I thought I might wear a pair of flip flops, but is that a good idea? Are there rides where flip flops won't work? Anyway... what are your thoughts?

I bought Keens specifically for our trip a few years ago. I did a lot of research on this board, searching through old threads and what not. I loved all the tips I found on feet and shoes. Some of the best tips I got were:

1. Go to a good shoe store/outdoor equipment store (like REI, Gander Mtn, etc.) and try on different shoes. This was great advice, because I was able to determine that Chacos had arches too high for my foot, Tevas buckles hit my foot in all the wrong places, and Keens were just right for me.
   
2. Use prevention items such as: BlisterBlock by Band-Aid, Body Glide, Moleskin, and deodorant on your feet to help prevent blisters
   
3. Pack regular scissors if you are checking luggage so that you can cut new strips of moleskin to go around your blisters in the event you end up with one.
   
4. Bring some bath salts and peppermint foot lotion for some foot pampering after a long day of touring...I would soak my feet in the tub, apply some lotion, then some socks before bed. I actually didn't do this our most recent trip but I missed the foot soaking. I found great foot products at The Body Shop

I wanted to add that I have the Keen Newports, and I have the waterproof style. That is one of my favorite things about the shoes...they also have an enclosed toe which is also a nice feature.

Wonderful tips!!! Thank you so much. I love the foot soak and peppermint lotion idea. I have heard of Keens , but not Chacos and Teva. (I guess I just might live under a rock.) My sister thinks that she is going to wear a pair of Reef flip flops. I may have to go out and try on a bunch of shoes in the next few days. Thanks so much for the great information.

Teva mush flip flops!!! best shoe i have ever owned.
we went the last week of august. i brought 3 pairs of shoes because i relly didnt know what would work best. i had my teva teri fis, keens and my mush. i thought i would go back and forth every other day between the teri fi's and the keens to keep my foot from getting fatigues. and i figured id wear the mush at night.
well the first day i realized the teri fi's were no good for that kind of distance. so i switched to just the keens. which we great!! but then one night i put the mush on and couldnt take them off. infavt two weeks later i still cant wear anything else.
i really liked the keens too, and would ahve been happy with them. but they were a lot on my foot. having just the flips was so much lighter.

I just saw a pair of micro-fibre Keds in our local shoe store - they looked like they would drip dry. Magical!

Newport H2 Keens are my absolute favorite shoe. Just be warned that they don't often stock this style anymore in the stores like REI (they are online though). It seems the stores have moved onto the Venice style, which I don't like (there are less straps and they don't feel right to me).

Also, I would stay with the fabric Keens, I have a leather pair as well and don't like them as much (they are very stiff, take a lot of breaking in). Definitely great shoes though!

We just got back from Disney and I took 4 pairs of shoes with me. I took a pair Keen Newports, Teva Hurricanes, Croc Cleos, and Nike Celso Plus. BY FAR, the most comfortable shoes were the Nike Celso Plus flip flops. My feet stayed cool, I didn't have to worry about them getting wet, and they were super comfortable.

I will be going shopping later today to try on some of these shoes. I also had someone suggest looking into Reefs. Has anyone heard of these? She suggested the Reef slaps (like flip flops). Any thoughts?

Before you buy I would try on numerous types of shoes but you can also search different styles of brands by many names and see what you think but some styles are difficult to find in the stores. I love my Crocs but to see all of the styles, because I have only seen some limited styles in the stores, I order on line. However, my Crocs do not often work on long distances so I also wear Tevas dozer and I love them. They have a look of sneakers and sandals. You just have to go with what is comfortable to you.

I actually got this tip off of here a few months ago & bought 2 pair of Crocs Athens flip flops. The most comfortable shoe ever! Trouble is, now I'm looking for comfy sneakers & nothing compares.

Another Croc hater that is so very glad I took a chance and tried them. I now have 2 pairs of Crocs Capri flip flops and love them. They're like walking on air and the most comfortable shoes I own.

I have not gone on my trip as of yet...but I bought a pair of Teva mush flip flops after a recommendation I read here...and they are heaven!!! I'm buying another pair for my trip and also a pair of cleo crocs...but Teva Mush...cushy choice!!!

I have 3 different pairs of Croc Capri Flip Flops and that's all I wore last week while @ WDW. Basically that's all I wear 24/7 since I live in Florida..... I tried wearing my NB sneakers at AK & they drove me nuts. I couldn't wait to get back to AKL so that I could get back into my flips.

I have tried every flip flop out there...Teva Mush, Crocs Athens, cheapos from J Crew, Old Navy, Gap and have had NO luck.


By chance, I ran into a friend I haven't seen in years and she was wearing Fit Flops. They were so cute on her! I asked her if I could try them on. I went that day to Macy's a bought a pair. They are the only flip flops I can wear all day long. And alledgedly, they will make my legs more toned as I wear them.

Check them out if you can!

But I am a sneaker kind of girl when it comes to Disney. And I swear by New Balance. I just got back from Disneyland and I would switch off between my flops and my sneakers...especially when we rode the 'wet' rides. I just kept my flops in my backpack and changed into them right before we loaded into the ride. It was a nice break for my feet to change into different shoes during the day.

However, since we'll be visiting in February (when it's quite cold) flops won't be an option (

I always wear flip flops and have never had a problem on any of the rides.
