What Serial Killer

Charles Cullen...He was the nurse in NJ that was killing patients. My Dad was in the hospital and had him as a nurse right before he got caught. I spoke to him more then once and my Dads medical records have his name all over them.

I've been addicted to the Investigation (ID) Discovery channel lately. They have a new show called "Infamous" about serial killers. Watched one about Joel Rifkin today...creepy. Made my husband update all our locks after watching so many true crime shows.

The National Museum of Crime & Punishment in DC has a serial killer section including Ted Bundy's VW bug.

Anyone remember the Seinfeld episode with the guy named "Joel Rifkin"? :rotfl2:

I watch most of the ones about the Atlanta Child murders back around 1979--81 because I was familiar with all the places and my kids were about the same ages as those children. But I don't believe for a minute Wayne Williams was guilty of all the murders.

Not a serial killer but Charles Manson just fascinates me! I would be very afraid to be alone with that man.

Same here!! If I watch anything about him before bed, I have to watch something happy or silly (like The Brady Bunch movie, lol) so I don't have nightmares. I also think the whole late '60's California vibe also grabs my attention.

John Wayne Gacy was a part-time clown, but did not use that to lure his victims who were too old to be interested in clowns. His victims were teens and yound adults. He lived in the suburbs of Chicago, so doubt it was that rural. I think most were buried in his crawl space.

I watch a LOT of Investigation Discovery (ID), so I'll watch shows about just about any serial killer. I guess the one I'm most fascinated by is The Zodiac Killer, since he was never caught. Serial killers don't normally just stop killing, they can't (BTK is the only instance I've ever heard or read about that stopped killing for an extended period of time); so, if he didn't go to prison for another crime, he likely died soon after the last Zodiac killing. I would like to see him identified definitively, but I don't think it'll ever happen.

I'm an ID addict myself!! :lmao:

Love the shows about the relatives of the serial killers...especially the wives who have no clue!

I would like to know more about Son of Sam,mostly because he was in my area. Haven't seen too many shows about him, though.

As for books Helter Skelter blew my mind! Also Jeffrey MacDonald's story, Fatal Vision.

Criminology is a big obsession of mine. I loved anything about the mob, too. Just watched Analyze This again last night...:lmao::lmao:

I have nothing to offer here, but I just wanted to say this thread title makes me stop every single time I see it.

The Zodiac Killer always fascinated me because he was never caught. Recently in the news, a man claimed that he is the son of the Zodiac Killer:eek:

I'm reading that book now; so far, very interesting.

If you are interested in serial killers I recommend the books by John Douglas, specifically Mindhunter. He was one of the FBI agents who started the Investigative Support Unit which studies and helps solve serial killer cases. There is a lot of info about the psychology of the crimes.

BTW, a PP listed serial killers who were adopted. Gaetan Dugas and Catherine Share were not serial killers.

Have you read the recent book about him? http://www.amazon.com/The-Good-Nurs...tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1400534604&sr=8-1

It scared me to death! Talk about hospital oversight...

Dahmer was my greatest nightmare, since I was a child in SE WI when he was doing his horrible deeds.

My cousin, a teen at the time, was working summers for a farmer, out picking up garbage out of a field where it had blown in from the country road it was next to. There was a large black Hefty bag, and when he opened it, it had body parts in it:scared1:. Turns out a local homeowner took a dislike to a door to door salesperson and killed him. Not a serial killer, but bad enough!

Just saw that episode last week!! lol!!

I think BTK was a chilling serial killer. He killed for such a long span of time and went for so many years without killing at all. He was married, had two children and held a position in his church. Scary!

Catherine wasn't a serial killer though she was guilty by association with the Manson nutjobs. But Gaetan Dugas killed more people with his disease than most serial killers did with a gun. I think he may fall in the category neatly if not literally.

I read Helter Skelter a couple of months after my first child was born in 1975. All of the murders were horrific but Susan Atkins wanting to cut Sharon Tate's baby out of her haunted me. Coincidentally years later, I found out that my present husband's BIL was Sharon Tate's first cousin.

The Jeffrey McDonald case is still a puzzle to me. After having read books arguing both sides of the case, I'm still unsure of his guilt.

I understand what you are saying. Catherine was definitely associated with Charles Manson's family, but not guilty. Most of Dugas's incidences of spreading AIDS occurred before it was even known, much less known to be contagious. I just thought if someone was writing a paper about serial killers they probably shouldn't include people who weren't serial killers. PP also included school shooters who are also not serial killers.

Terri

yes, I have that book on my kindle.

My Dad was moved to a rehab place and then ended up back at the Hospital the day the story broke...my brothers were with him and said there were news vans all around the Hospital.... not good to turn on the news and find your loved ones nurse on TV!!! We did reach out to the Sheriff and was told at that time.. since my Dad was still alive they were not interested in his medical records (at that time) because they were looking into who had died on his watch. They did much later on have Cullen himself look over my dads records to see if he tried to kill him. (my dad was in ICU and had crashed at night) he said..no he never tried to kill my Dad. it was very surreal...
