No one is judging anyone's parenting skills or labeling anyone a "bad" or "good" parent. .

This didn't sound judgmental to you I cannot believe this was a serious question!!! Thought it was a joke until I opened the thread. 1 month old baby on rides!!! Are you for real??? No, NO and again, BIG NO!!!!! ?

No it didn't - it was someone's opinion. No where is this person saying a parent who does this is a "bad" parent. I guess I am giving them the benifit of the doubt here - since the words "bad" parent weren't used - I didn't take it as judgemental.

I guess the part where she said she thought it was a joke? Why would taking a baby be a big joke? I take one all the time, and there's nothing funny about it!

There was no being 'judgemental'. A question was asked and I answered it. Plain and simple. The part about the joke was "I thought this thread was a joke until I opened it"..not that taking babies on rides is
a joke'!!!! But I stand behind what I said earlier...amusement park rides are absolutely no place for 1 month old infants!!!!!!! There's a few people who have written about how their 18 mos. old had a great time, etc, etc." BIG DIFFERENCE...1 month old/18 month old!!! Perhaps the OP should address this issue with a medical professional.

Do you think Disney would really let infants on rides that would harm them or put them in danger. There are reasons that pregnant women and infants are able to ride the rides that have no height requirement...because they are fine for them!!! Barring any special problems with your newborn, there is no medical reason they could not ride the rides they are allowed on!

I have to say that I can't imagine taking a 1 month old on a ride. I'd be too worried about the baby being hurt. Accidents do happen, even in Disneyland.
On our last trip to DL, there was a family seated next to us with a small baby on PoTC, the poor thing woke up just as we started and screamed through the whole ride. I felt sorry for the parents, they definitely did not enjoy the ride. It wasn't very pleasant for the people seated next to the crying baby either.

It is not just the rides (and all that entails), or the problems when babies are unhappy - from my perspective - it is also bringing an infant (unimmunized) into crowds during cold, flu, RSV, and pertussis season. That is a risk I would not take. And . . . not just to DL - to any crowded public area during htis time of year.

I also wouldn't take a small infant because of the rides, the noise, and the discomfort to the baby, the rest of the family and other guests if the baby should be a cryer (and myself) - I think it would be easier to wait until the child is older - or you go and get a babysitter for the baby. But that is just me - I was overwhelmed with taking care of infants and the thought of going someplace big (or sometimes even "small") was often too much for me to coordinate. It just wasn't worth the effort in many cases. My kids were not deprived of life - and we were certainly not hermits - but we made choices.

Just my opinion - tell us what you decide to do and how your trip goes! I'm sure you'll do what you think is best for your baby and yourself after you gather all the information you need to make your choice.

I guess I just don't understand! Do you not go to the grocery store/mall/older children's school or sports activities for the entire cold/flu season? How is that possible? This is a serious question! I mean I wasn't about to miss my DD5's first ever Thanksgiving kindergarten program even though DS was a few weeks old! And a school with 700 kids is probably worse than DL, lol! Do you just miss out on everything for 6 months until RSV season is over? I just don't get how you are able to completely avoid not go out to public crowded places. I don't do babysitters and DH works around 70 hours a week so I would literally never go anywhere if I stayed home till they were older!

My DS is 1 today!!!! and I guess he managed to survive despite going on Pirates at 1 month old. And perhaps I have been lucky that none of my kids have ever cried during a ride yet (knock on wood) They were great sleepers and have had no problems at Disney. Maybe it's because they were acclimated early!

OP I hope you do go and have a great trip, baby will be fine, it's not like you won't be holding onto them!! They are easier to hang onto when they aren't all squirmy like when they get older!!

Why don't you discuss it with your family doctor. I am sure you will make the best decision for you and the baby.

yes matterhorn, your just not understanding. We are talking about rides, not places.

Yes, i agree, i would talk this over with your family and/or doctor, like what the last poster say...

If you noticed, some people were talking about places. My very first reply was addressing rides only. It was other posters that brought up other reasons, and I don't see you having a problem with them. I was asking a seperate question to the posters that said they shouldn't take the baby out in cold/flu season. I don't understand how that is possible. I do understand about the rides and so does Disney otherwise they would not let infants on them! The rides are fine and all three of my kids are living proof!

if your gonna go, you might want to take someone with you. That way, both you and the other person can enjoy the rides with baby swap. Its really nice they would do that. this is when one rides first while watching the baby, and then switch so both members can ride.

Most of the rides you can ride with a baby don't have baby swap, so you would be waiting in the full line for each ride twice and riding everything alone. Definitely not fun!

Although I personally could not imagine taking an infant that young to the park I think that it would PROBABLY be ok if you limit what you do and keep the child warm etc.

I have a step daughter who was 8 when my little one was almost 1. Sure we could have waited till she was a little older but let me tell you even at 10 months old my dd loved it. She loved to look at everything and loved the characters and was fascinated with IASW etc.

I agree that you can't put your life on hold (esp with older kids) it is not fair to them.

If I had waited for my dd to be "old enough" my sd would be in high school.

My kids are now 5 and 6 and they have been to DL AND DW several times and LOVE it. We had an opportunity to go to DW when my youngest was 1 and my older one was 2 1/2 and let me tell you they had a GREAT time.

So I say just be sensible and have a good time.

People are allowed to smoke around babies...doesn't mean it's good for them. Remember when doctors told pregnant women it was ok to smoke? Sometimes the harmful effects aren't recognized until years later. That said, as parents we all do what we think is best for our own families. WE decide, if life goes on full swing with an infant or if it slows down abit. We choose to smoke or not...a million little decisions that in the end create the families we become. Talking with your doctor is good advice, but in the end it's up to the you.
In the end, our children (as we did) will survive their parents' mistakes as well as celebrate the things we did right.

While I can see your point, I wouldn't compare ingesting or breathing in something with going on a ride! Also, there is no way Disney would be able to get any kind insurance if they were letting infants on rides that weren't safe for them. Also something I just thought of, all Disneyland/WDW ride deaths have been with children over age 3, most of them being adults. I don't think there's a single case of an infant dying on/from a ride, please correct me if someone knows differently. So history and reason would say that an infant is probably safest of all age groups!!

I do agree though, it is personal opinion. I just didn't want the OP to think that she couldn't go on many rides and sit out in fear. I even called my OB, rated one of the best in the country and he said for a normal full term infant, it is fine!!

I think the low incidents of babies being injured on a ride in any park would be more attributed to the ratio of babies on rides (very low) than it not happening at all; there are far more children over 3 yrs of age and adults on rides than infants under 1 month. I would think like anything else, if you use common sense about something then you'll be ok. OP was asking what rides would be safe for a baby, and of course there are a few. Taking a baby or not is mostly personal preference and how much inconvinience you're willing to endure and what you're willing to expose your baby to. For myself, I'd much rather wait a year then take the family than go with a one month old. But that's just my opinion!

I must go at just the right times then because I see little babies on rides there all the time besides mine. Still strange though. If it was so unsafe, surely there would have been some cases! Oh well, I digress. OP have fun!!

Kudos Matterhorn,
My neice is also living proof that kids - sorry infants - can ride many rides, and live to see their next trip! I remember my sister feeding the baby on Pirates while we ooohed and aaahed through the battling ships. I'm sure this one will get even more of an uproar

To whomever it was that started the thread - the only rides we didn't take my 6 mo old niece on were the ones with height restrictions.
From what I remember we took her on:
Pirates
Fantasyland rides - except maybe one or two
Haunted Mansion
Jungle Cruise
Bug's Life
etc.

If you have someone to switch off with on the big rides all the better. We had 5 adults, 5 kids on our last trip with the family. It was great! My sister's older 4 kids were able to ride everything, while all the adults took turns doing the "baby swap" on Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, California Screamin, etc. You'll be fine - no need to panic! Its been done thousands of times by thousands of "fit" parents.

Happy Planning
