What ride is scary to your little one?

On our second trip to WDW, our first day in the parks was to Epcot. We took our first trip during peak hours and missed a lot of the rides. So, on our first ride of the day, I stepped aside and asked a cast member whether Journey Into Imagination with Figment would be scary. I didn't want dd3's first ride to be a scary one. I wanted to start her off easy and work up. He said no. I took his word and didn't think to ask any more about it. I was not within earshot of dd3; she was with dh.

So, once the ride began, dd3 saw all of the black light effects (or what ever they use) and that immediately had her screaming. I didn't see any of the ride because dd and I were huddling and I was trying to talk her through it. I remember a skunk smell and a big puff of air that just made her screaming louder. There was nothing I could do. It wasn't like I could hop off the ride with her. I felt so bad for the other guests.

Needless to say, dd3 wouldn't go in any more inside rides for the rest of the trip. Dh and I took turns taking dd8 and ds1 onto rides and the other parent would take dd3 to meet characters or to ride outside rides. DD3 loves the "teapots", Dumbo, the carousel, etc.

Dd3 has seen pictures of IASW and she is so excited and wants to ride it on our next trip. To me, this ride is the tamest ride (inside). I truly hope she likes it and isn't afraid.

I thought I'd post this to let other parents out there know that Figment may be frightening to the young ones. I had no clue.

So, back to my question, what ride is scary to your little one(s)?

My DS4 went on all the rides with no problems, so when he begged to do Dinosaur i thought he would be OK!! Boy, was i wrong and I feel so bad for taking him on it. It scared him to death :earseek: ---I am usually so careful about those things and was kicking myself. We had to ride the "silly dinosaurs" (triceratops spin) 5 or 6 times in a row to make up for it!!! :rotfl:

Figment was actually the ONLY ride on our recent trip that frightened our kids (3 and 5) absolutely refused to go on it again. They liked it pretty well up until the very VERY loud noise and burst of air at the end. That really freaked them out and 3-yo didn't want to go anywhere near that building for the rest of the trip--a shame, since I love Figment!
These are the same kids who rode Tower of Terror twice and begged to go on it more. Go figure.

I screamed on the Imagination ride when the big puff of air came out too! And I'm 21! Which we had the old Imagination ride back...that one was just fun, and not scary at all.

My DD4 is more scared of dark attractions and things that happen in the dark and is not really bothered at all by motion rides. She is bothered by Mickey's Philharmagic (wouldn't dream of any of the other 3D movees), Snow White, Peter Pan and Buzz Lightyear. She is even bothered a little bit by the Pooh ride. And frankly, even the TTA when it goes underneath SM and by Buzz.

She does ask to ride Peter Pan and to see the "Mickey movie" even though it scares her. At MGM, she loves The Little Mermaid but is also scared when Ursula comes out. Even at IASM she gets a little distressed when we first go in just because it is dark, but then she quickly gets over it and enjoys it immensely.

That ride scared me! Dd8 had been on it twice before with dh. So, on my first time, my instinct was to bury her head in my chest and hide her face. I was screaming! She was laughing at me and questioning why I made her miss part of the ride.:rotfl2:

I am surprised that she was scared by Figment - my DK's including DS1 didn't flinch. DH took DS5DS7 and DD9 on Dinosaur and I stayed with the baby in the gift shop watching the pictures of people on the ride go across the screens. Every child including our 9 year old and some other kids who seemed older were ducking and closing their eyes on that one...many little ones coming off the ride were crying....my kids wanted to go again, except for DS5 who said it was too scary to go again, but didn't cry or anything. I would not recommend Dinosaur to any little ones, but if someone had asked me about figment I would have recommended that to any age, so I guess you just have to know you little one and ask more specific ?'s - like does it get dark? are there flashing lights?

The CM told me that Stiches great escape was not scary, but my DS5 freaked out when it went dark and his seat moved....from then on in the trip, I asked if there was darkness on the ride.

My dd3, liked The Little Mermaid too! I was shocked. She was the one who wanted to see that show even though I told her it would be dark. She was determined to see Ariel. She did start to get frightened when she saw Ursula but, I reminded her that in the movie everything works out in the end and it didn't bother her anymore.

The show that most frightened her was Playhouse Disney.:confused3

My ds1 wasn't afraid of Figment at all either but, dd3 sure was!:confused3

It was very difficult for me to predict what my DD wouldn't like when she was 3, so I avoided everything that could fear her. But she begged to go to Haunted Mansion and she started crying in a low voice in the middle of the ride. Broke our heart ... :guilty: :maleficen

When she was 5, she loved Figment, went on Space Mountain 4 times, once in Mission Space, ThunderRock 5 or 6, but only one in Splash Mountain ... She was loving the ride till the big drop. After that she remained in silence and didn't want to go again. The same happened at ToT.

After that we talked to her and she told us that she doesn't lke to feel that "cold sensation" in her belly ...

I have found it depends on the day or year. DS loved PoTC when he was 2 - didn't when he was 3. We were last there in May and we avoided Little Mermaid, Figment, Snow White, Mickeys Philharmagic, Wishes (first saw while we were trapped in Fantasyland - big mistake!). DD2 last trip was a riot. When she didn't like something she covered her little eyes with her hands! If they are tired they are less likely to want to ride iffy things and will make everyone miserable. We are going back in Feb. I'm hopeful both kids may be ready for a few more rides - but if not - oh well. Be flexible, avoid the sensory overload rides and have a great time!

Our son is very easy going and nothing usualy bothers him but It's Tough to be a Bug scared him. We're going back next January with both kids this time and they are so different. Everything scares our daughter so it will be interesting to see if she will want to go on anything.

On our first trip, DD was just shy of 5. She had never shown any particular fears but I still wasn't planning on doing Snow White or Haunted Mansion. Our first attraction on our first day was It's Tough to be a Bug. I think we lasted about 2 minutes until I took her out screaming and sobbing. After that she was distrustful of EVERYTHING! She even hid under my mom's big straw hat during the Lion King show. DS was 2 years younger and not bothered by any of it.

She also mentioned that Pooh was kind of scary during the Heffalump and Woozle part and she wanted nothing to do w/ Buzz bcs she was afraid Zurg was in there.

My DS, now almost 6 talks about wanting to do Dinosaur, but after what we went through w/ Lindsay, I'm really reluctant.

My kids hated it!! They were 4 and 6 at the time

For my son (8 on our last visit) the scary rides are:
Stich's Alien Adventure, A Bug's Life 3-D, & Dinosaur.
Everything else he loves and does multiple times!

I have to say, I never realized how many of the rides at WDW are dark and loud until I took my kids! Last January, when DD#1 was 2 1/2, she was scared by almost everything we tried. She is, however, VERY sensitive to loud or unfamiliar noises, even on a daily basis. I am hoping to take her back next October (she'll be 4) and I'm really hoping that this noise issue is a phase & she will have outgrown it by then. Anyway, she too was frightened by Figment, and by Mickey's Philharmagic (had to take her out of that one) and by Peter Pan. Didn't even try Snow White. She did okay on Pooh. Her favorite was the carousel, but even that took a bit of cajoling to get her to try. I think you just need to know your child - I have learned that DD#1 tends to be a bit timid when it comes to stuff like that, so we really need to let her call the shots. DD#2 is only 16 months, but as I watch her personality develop, I have a feeling she'll be the one wanting to try ALL the rides (she's a little hellion already!)

Snow White's scary adventures!!!! (Though dd2 took it better than ds when he was 2.5 or 5.5!)

The prelude to Haunted Mansion...in the big stretching room. My kids did not like being in a VERY crowded, dimly lit room. Never mind the story telling...they were afraid just walking into someplace, feeling trapped, w/ a lot of BIG people standing around them.

All my granddaughter enjoyed at 2-1/2 was IASM. Pooh was very scary because of the dark so we didn't try anything indoors after that. She wouldn't go near characters though she liked to see them. She didn't even notice the other rides, so we stuck with parades, playgrounds, animals and Toontown.
Last year at 3-1/2 she suddenly noticed the rides and loved Dumbo, flying carpets, & Teacups, all as high and fast as possible. Playhouse Disney left her cold but characters were BIG. Philharmagic was tough when anything squirted but otherwise good.
This year she's insisting she wants to do "lots of rides and EPCOT" so we'll try Soarin' and the ride in Mexico (IASM in Spanish, as far as I'm concerned). She's determined to see Wishes, which have been too loud for the last two years.
There are hysterical kids in every show of Tough to be a Bug, so I wouldn't even consider it, but it's so individual -- you just have to consider carefully and be prepared to bolt so you don't ruin it for everyone else.

We took our DS2 on Figment and he was fine. Took him on Haunted Mansion...fine. Everything except for PhilHarmagic was ok. I didnt even figure that he would REALLY think that the things were coming right at him. Next year we will know better.
