What resort affordable for family of 6?

I have to agree with the last two posters - Renting points is a great way to all stay together and reasonably priced too!
We rented a 2BR villa at OKW with my parents, DH and DSs 3 and 8...Plenty of room!
See the DVC Renting/Trading Posts section on this site! You wont regret it!

Lowest season, lowest points would be September (or an equally DVC "value" season) for 22 points a night weeknights. They would need a two bedroom. Weekend points, or any other resort or time of year, will get more expensive. If they are willing to go Sun - Thur during the off season - DVC points could be a great option - otherwise its a budget buster for them.

For lots of space and truly affordable, you really can't beat offsite vacation homes for a large family.

If you are going on a dining plan and have no use for a kitchen, then I would not go with the cabins or anywhere else with a kitchen unless the price was awesome. The cabins themselves are great and we saved lots of money eating in for a week. BUT they are located in a large campground with difficult transportation to everywhere inside and outside the campground. We had our own car to drive to parks (other than MK and it was an awful commute) and chose to skip all other activities in the campground because of the bus system there. It simply was too much work for a vacation.

I agree. We didn't hate the cabins, but gettiing around was a pain and it just didn't feel like a Disney vacation. Since we are about to become a family of 5, I think we'll return to the cabins at some point but it's not my favorite.

I would try adjoining value rooms or renting points first (though, granted, so far we've done neither, but the DVC 2 brs look gorgeous)

It sounds like 2 value rooms would be your best option. WIth 4 kids, I would rent a fridge for one of the rooms as well.

In October, I went to WDW with my mom, my sister, and her 4 kids, ranging in age from 7 to 18, for a week. We stayed at Pop Century, and had connecting rooms - worked out great. PC is a value, so the price is right, and the theme is wonderful. Whatever you decide, have a great time! :teeth:

DVC is a wonderful option. two rooms a tvalue would be nice too.

DVC = LR, full kitchen , beautiful master bedroom, tons of room and a wonderful resort.

Can you do the dinning plan if you rent a DVC?

No at this time Disney does not offer the dining plan in conjunction with DVC.

But an alternative that many DVC's use is the Disney Dining Experience Card. It gets you 20% up to 10 people off many restaurants including alcohol.

You need to be a Florida resident or an Annual Pass Holder to get the card and it costs $50 for an AP holder, I am not sure about the cost for a Fl. resident.

Only one person dining has to have the card.

I think the Dining Plan is better and I wish DVC had that option but if I was paying for the dining plan I'd feel trapped about eating out all the time. So I am kind of torn on it. I do wish it was at least an option though.

I would either rent DVC points for Disney's OKW 2 bedroom (very roomy) about 1500 square feet with a large laundry room with full size washer and dryer. Or, stay at one of the nice off-site Marriott timeshares like Marriott's Grande Vista or Marriott's Cypress Harbour - very beautiful resorts and on par with Disney's vacation club resorts. If you have a family member that has a membership through Interval International you could probably get a "Getaway" at one of these Marriott 2 bedrooms for around $700 for a week.

Or as some have posted, 2 value rooms or 2 modertate rooms. I guess it depends on how much time you want to spend at Disney. If you went with some of the Marriott timeshare properties I mentioned, they are VERY close to Seaworld.

Thanks everyone for the great info! I'm thinking two rooms at POP or Port Orleans if a great code comes out - now I've got to figure out how to watch for that! Getting more and more excited since I found this website.
