Hi all! Just confirmed my flights today and now onto booking the rental car. We always go Easter week --fly into Orlando and out of Tampa. I am not only amazed at the high prices but the rental car companies also want to tack on a $150 drop off fee.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this or can share what kind of rates you were able to book.

I booked my April 14-24 car rental (Budget) many months ago. I thought the rate was outrageous then...$325. Well....I've been watching it go steadily up..it's now hovering around $650!! I can't imagine what the actual week following Easter is going to be like. Car rental rates in Florida have been really high lately. I guess they know what the market will bear.

Hi:
We'll be there Easter week. The rates are crazy without a code they are around $1700 for 10 days for a minivan. I got $625 with Thrifty and $530 with Budget. I'm still hoping for a better deal.

We are going April 17th to the 26th. I just got my airline tickets yesterday! I thought everything was really cheap! I got an SUV from Budget for $354 and my airfare was $532 for the 3 of us. We are driving down to St. Pete Beach and staying on the beach. The savings was well worth the short drive. Why didn't you just fly home out of Orlando? The drive is not bad at all.

What codes did you use to get that?? We are going down around the same time

That's pretty incredible. Like I said, I've been looking at April 14-24....and so glad I booked months and months ago. I got a compact for $350....now I can't find anything for under $600!! But perhaps the various airports make a difference. I'm flying into Sanford, not MCO.
I just plugged in the dates 4/17-26...nothing even close to $300-400. Everything was around $800!! You must have hit a fluke in the system!!! Lucky you!!

Booked back in Oct... for the 14th to the 27th of april for Alamo fopr a full size car with costco coupons and codes for around $325. I was beyond thrilled with that. Now, its really crazy!

We too are headed to St. Pete Beach for 5 nights!:cool1:

DH is a government employee. I booked it from a government travel discount web site. I will go back and see if I can get a code. Last year I had great success using a costco code, but did not try that this year yet.

We just got a rate of $154 for 4/19 - 4/23 for a compact, into and out of MCO. We never used Payless before, but I am not paying $500 for a rental car for 5 days!

I got a intermediate car (Pontiac G6 or similar) from Budget at MCO for $249 for 4/13-20. It was through carrentalsavers.com - I looked for quite some time and that's the best that I found that could hold 5.

However, for anyone who needs a condo & car - I got a beautiful huge condo and minivan from expedia for $900 a week a couple of years ago - also mid April. Totally worth a look.

Just booked with Dollar from rental car momma, pick up and return Orlando Intl Airport April 22-30, 2011 ( 9 day rental) Easter Week for a standard size car (Ford Fusion) After all the mandatory charges the grand total was $301.66 This was the best I could find Hope this helps

Ah, that explains it. The vast majority of folks aren't going to be able to get that discount. I know my sister-in-law is a TA, working with the military, and she gets some terrific rates!!

I have a reservation with Thrifty for a compact car from April 13 (late) to April 21 (mid-morning) for a grand total (including taxes and fees) of $184!! I booked the rental in July. It is just DH and I traveling so a compact car works for us

Which government employee web site did you use?

Hey all....just wanted to update that I was able to lower my rates today with Alamo using my Visa card ID code: 7015504 and Alamo $40 off coupon code (No actual coupon needed) of AD4027JDO

I had a reservation at $258.58 and it is now down to $212.56 for a mid-size.

This code rocked! Brought my rental down considerably :yay:...... where did you get the code? For sure, for sure I don't need to present a coupon????

The Visa code I got from the Visa website...so obviously you must pay with your Visa credit card.

The $40 off coupon code I got in an email from Alamo, however I also saw the same code on the mousesavers site. I think it is intended for Alamo Insiders (their loyalty program which you can join for free)

I love National and Alamo because you can stack codes and coupons.

I'm glad to help my fellow DIS'rs and a fellow Wisconsinite save some money! :thumbsup2

Oh awesome! I have a Visa and I joined the Alamo loyalty program, just to be on the safe side.

Thank you fellow 'sconnie!
