Definitely check out the UU churches and if the one that you try doesn't work - go back for a couple of weeks because things change. Also, try other UU churches as, truly, no two are the same!beckmrk04 said:I checked "Other" because I didn't feel like I fit in much anywhere else. I attend church with my dh, who is Catholic, but I'm not baptised, and have no inkling to be, and not really Christian, although I do believe in God. I'm currently looking into the Universalist Unitarian Church, and I think they'd fall under "other" also.

I think a lot of Eastern concepts are interesting. I believe that there is sort of an oversoul, like the brahman in Hindu... a general spirit that is all around us, but not necessarily making any decisions. Just sort of a life power. I think that Western thought has raised humans to a supreme level, but I think humanity in general is foolish and makes bad decisions, and that we are no better than elephants or ants or trees. I guess I just think a lot about everything. I'm proud of that, though.
When I have children, I would like to raise them in a Unitarian Universalist type of church... one that recognizes the value in all religions, and allows for many beliefs and theories. I want my kids to know what facts and thoughts are out there, and allow them to be fully educated so that when they are mature enough, they can make a decision on what to believe.

Some in this thread have mentioned it. It's an odd faith because it has no creed. Rather, it has seven principles, concerned such things as "the dignity and worth of all people," the right for a personal pursuit of the truth, and the right to vote (all very simplified). There are Christian UU's, humanist UU's, pagan UU's, and all sorts of different types. It's not a Christian religion (the term Unitarian comes from those who were outvoted at the Council of Nicea), but we feel that Jesus had many wonderful things to teach us.
(Sorry, I sound like I'm proselytizing, which we're not supposed to do. However, there were questions before about unfamiliar religions, so I thought I'd head the questions off before they get started.)

Lapse Catholic. I joined a WONDERFUL presbyterian church when we lived in Aurora, Co. DS was baptized there. I have attended both a presbyterian and an Episcipal church here in NH. My dd is not yet baptized
