I am taking my first trip to WDW in September during the hot months of Florida. We have been countless times to the world but always in the winter.
I couldn't pass up a trip with my first grandson and family.

Here in NJ we just experienced a very prolonged heat wave and I am concerned I will not do well since I'm in the hot flash stage of life and do not do well in heat. I'm also worried about my grandson being in a hot stroller. We purchased the fan for the stroller and hope that will help.

I am determined to find a cooling method to help us have more longevity in the parks. We usually go back to our hotel for a rest but I'd like to stay in the parks until at least 1:00pm.

I've researched but would love to know what has worked for others.

Some ideas are:
Stay hydrated
Washcloths in a cooler of ice.
Neck coolers - which ones actually work?
Personal fans
Mister

Does anyone know of a soft cooler that doesn't leak?

I'm about to order neck coolers but get mixed reviews. If humidity is high I hear they don't work very well. Some have beads in them, some have ice packs that must thaw very quickly.

I don't want to ruin my family's good times by being miserable. I know I shouldn't have planned to go in such heat but couldn't resist being in WDW with my grandson. Just maybe there is a solution to get me a couple of hours extra in the Florida heat.

Would love to hear how others have handled this subject.

If anyone is interested my search has found these products:

Ice Wraptor Bandana (can be worn around the neck and uses an ice insert that needs to be frozen overnight) at $10

Cool on the Go: Hands free cooling device $20

Misty Mate - Personal Mister with fine mist at $21

Windchiller: mister/fan $20

Kafka's Kool Tie - REI micro bead style neck tie. $11 each

Polar-Products Pet Pad - To use in the stroller.

I've emailed some questions and they have not responded.

We used stroller fans for our son in the heat of June and July. It was very helpful in combination with an additional oversized sunshade for the stroller. I picked both up at Babies R Us before we left. Just don't forget to pack extra batteries and a small screwdriver to change the batteries with. We packed Duracell lithium batteries and turned the fan off when we parked the strollers. One set of AA batteries would last us through one park day with the fan. Hope that helps a little!

As for keeping yourself cool, the mister fan was a life saver for me along with light colored clothing that was cool and keeping my hair up. I don't do heat well either. We tried to visit rides and attractions with A/C when we got heated and shopped to cool down too. Our table service meals were lifesavers since we don't usually go back to the hotel. It was our chance to rest, eat, cool down, and be ready to go again.

I did use lots of baby wipes too! I would wipe my face, arms, neck, etc just to feel a little better. I don't know if it really helped me feel cooler but it did help me feel cleaner.

We used to go in November, then had to switch a few years ago to August when my kids got too old to take out of school for a week. I don't use any particular products, but have found this to help tremendously:

-good walking sandals, not shoes and socks. My feet got just too hot and sweaty, which made the rest of me feel even hotter.

-definitely hair off your neck

-light, loose, cottony clothing. Even my teenage daughters will only wear loose fitting, blouse-y type tops that don't cling and hold sweat.

-keep a water bottle handy! You can also just wet a few paper towels in the ladies' room to dampen your neck and forehead if it gets really humid out.

Good luck! We actually really enjoy our August trips, and are sure to take a pool break every afternoon to beat the heat.

We have been several times in September and since I discovered Frogg Toggs, they are a must! They really help to keep me and my DS 4 from getting too hot. The hubs and our older kids are just too cool for them, but if they keep me from getting sick from the heat, I don't care what they look like. I used to keep a cooler with ice water and a wash cloth in the stroller, but now I don't have to do that. We also use a misting fan and my son loves it!

For us, a couple of Misty Mate Misters are the secret to Disney in August. I wouldn't go without them.

We spent the heat wave in our backyard pool, but that's kind of not an option at WDW.

I would suggest, forget the pet pad for the stroller you won't need it Misting fans are great I work outside in FL heat and have had the best experience with Frogg Toggs better than a wet/soggy cloth neck wrap micro bead thing Law enforcement friend told me about Frogg Toggs a few years ago, you'd be surprised how many wear them

I guess I get cold feet with the Frogg Togs because I've read some reviews that they don't work. I was thinking that was because it's just so hot in some climates.

Good to know they do work.

The replies are most helpful. I feel better about what items to try.

Glad to hear MistyMates work so well.
Any advice on the size? 24oz is sold out. 16 oz. can still be found.

Thanks so much!

These are the ones we always get. http://www.amazon.com/MistyMate-10025-Hand-Held-Personal-Mister/dp/B0009KBKQ4/ref=pd_sim_lg_1
They're the size of an electric toothbrush, weigh nothing, and will fit into whatever bag you're carrying (though we do put them into a baggie in case of leaks.)

You can refill them at any restroom or water fountain.

We got the neckerchif( spelling) with cooling beads you stick in the freezer at dollar tree along with small fans.

Thanks for the link for the Misty Mate. I was worried about weight.

Hair up too. I'm not going to fuss with styling hair in that humidity.

Thanks again.

We used the Frogg togs at the Dover NASCAR race for the first time. It was incrediable hot. I work outside everyday and couldn't believe the difference that the Frogg Tog made.
