What other timeshare do you like?

I've mentally gamed that out over the years.... and I completely agree... Have no interest in making the place I go to relax and unwind into the place I go to work...
Same here. I don’t have a job Disney would hire for anyway, but my eight year old is interested in working there when she is older. I really want to deter her as I know that when play becomes work it can be a lot less fun, and she loves Disney so much. I think keeping work separate is best for many of us.

I hope you encourage your daughter to Intern at WDW during college years.
It is usually a good thing on your resume with “ Disney “ on it.
And the first question will be “ Tell me about your Disney Internship”
And she will probably make some lifelong friends.
Next time you visit …check out their college housing location off Western Way .

I love the Embassy Suites and their first timeshare is located near the MargaritaVille location driving past Target .
I have not stayed here But , I am not happy with it being squeezed into a location that looks like a lot of apartment complexes .
Very strange.

My only concern is the possibility that the past due not paying can be passed down as debt to kids. I didn’t research around to see if that’s a possible outcome.

My limited understanding (and I have not researched this extensively, so take it with a grain of salt) is that there are generally two ways you can handle timeshare interests (although all states also have different laws governing estate planning). One, do nothing, and it would pass to your heirs if they want it and go through probate to get it - but they can also disclaim it. If they disclaim it, I think it would just go back to the developer. Two, set up a trust of some sort and title your TS interest in the name of the trust - then it would go into the trust and it would be the duty of the trustee upon your death to distribute the assets to the beneficiaries of the trust. This avoids probate, but also makes it an asset owned by trust where the trustee would have an obligation to continue paying the dues, and I don't think there there is the same ability to disclaim it. I'm sure I'll consult an estate attorney at some point, but my initial thoughts have been, no nothing until my kids are older. Then, if they want it, into the trust it goes. If they don't want it, do nothing.

We used to have a timeshare in St Maarten that we really enjoyed, but it became a cautionary tale of what can happen. We purchased resale (as one should), so our initial costs weren't too terrible. At the time, the property was a fixed week timeshare operated by Sunterra. Things went great for a few years. First, Sunterra tried to convert many of the fixed week owners to a point system. Some did convert, but many did not (we didn't, we kept our fixed week). Then, Sunterra got bought out by Diamond Resorts and the maintenance fee increases began. In essence, our MF doubled over the span of a few years and we were due to pay more in MF than what it would cost just to rent a week. So, since no one would by our week (quite honestly, we didn't pay that much for it in the first place), we paid a paltry sum to Diamond just to get rid of it.

Eventually, the property was taken over by Hilton, so I'm sure it's much better now, and actually, I'd love to go back, just as a renter, not an owner...

The rising maintenance fees thing is very real…. Seems to be a problem at a lot of the timeshare properties as they age…You can book a cash stay for less than the annual dues potentially….

This is one of the reasons Wyndham is shedding a dozen resorts at the end of the year.
Quite off topic, but where do they go? Do owners or management get to decide to disaffiliate? That probably varies from vendor to vendor…

I vaguely recall that Disney Vacation Club owners could vote to disaffiliate, but Disney would get to pick the new name of the resort or something along those lines… I would similarly imagine, Disney wrote a contract that allows them to offload the management should they wish to.
