What options for a vegetarian (& kids) does Ohana have?

When we ate there last (so good!), I remember mostly meat. And my husband & I are fine with that! :thumbsup2

DH & I would not want to pass up Ohana's dinner. What options would have young teenage girl have? Does Ohana's have different items in the kitchen they bring out for vegetarians?

And our kids weren't impressed with the food. Though I'm hoping it was just tiredness. (won't make that mistaken again!). I thought I readed months back that other foods could be subsitituted for kids. Is this so? What kind of foods?

TIA!

I face the same issue with my 15 year old as well. But she is Vegan so its a bit more frustrating for her. As long as you give them about a 48 hour advance notice, they will be very accomodating for vegetarians/food allergies, etc. When you call they might actually put you through to a chef. Other times, I've had the chef come to our table and personally discuss the menu items, which to avoid, etc. AND if there are no items that are preferrable, then they will make something exclusively for her. Desserts as well. Now that is only for table service. Quick service, you are pretty much on your own. But Ohana's current head chef is the former head chef from one of Animal Kingdom's restaurants and he is truly wonderful and accomodating. We were there for breakfast the last visit and there were lots of choices for vegetarians/vegans.

If you ask they will bring out something else for the kids. We had to get chicken nuggets  , fries, and mac and cheese for the little ones last time. Previous trips they ate everything.

Hmm... truth be told, I don't know the difference between vegetarian & vegan. This is not my daughter, but her friend. Whenever she's over, I just cook a vegetarian meal that day.

I'm glad to hear (as a worse-case scenario) that they will make another dish exclusively for her. She's thanked me many times for cooking a "real meal" where as her other friends' parents feed her cheese pizza, veggie burger, grilled cheese. With all the buffet food choices, I don't think that would happen often - but I would hate it to happen too much. Thank you!

Great, thank you! Last time my DS only ate shrimp. It's hard getting him to eat chicken, steak, pork. Wouldn't touch the salad or pot stickers either. Yes - shrimp only I believe - beside desert that is. He loves nuggets though.

From what I have read the chefs at Ohana are very accomodating to vegetarians.

My kids eat the stuff at Ohana, but kids can order anything from the Kona kids menu...you can check at allears for the current kids menu to see what they offer.

My sister-in-law is a vegetarian. When we travel to Disney my brother and SIL who live in FL will ofter come to join us for a day or 2. Ohana is one of the places we enjoy the most so that is often where we end up.

When we go she always gets this HUGE bowl of veggies (not sure exactly what is in the mix) and some grilled tofu. She wlways seems to be as pleased with her dinner as we are with the beef, shrimp, chicken and pork.

We never call ahead to request anything special. Just discuss options with the waiter. I think a vegetarian meal is something they deal with all the time.

Can't wait for our November dinner at Ohana!

I also recommend calling in advance.

What I received last time I dined, and what I think has become somewhat the standard veggie meal, is hummus and baba ganoush with chips for an appetizer, and then a big dish with rice, marinated tofu, veggies, and tempura veggies! It's delicious and a HUGE portion! I stuff myself silly (but save room for the bread pudding!)!!

The salad, lo mein, and broccoli are also vegetarian. She definitely won't go hungry, and won't have to settle on a veggie burger.
