No idea where to post this... so it may be moved. Is there a rant board??

As you can see from my signature I'm not a Disney rookie, and so far have been a very happy DVC member. I just returned from short trip with my husband and daughter and was pretty much in awe of my fellow attendees.

I still firmly believe Disney creates some pretty incredible magic. From the resorts, to the restaurants and beyond I applaud Disney for their Imagineering.

Here is where I'll get bugged ... can someone create a magic band of sorts that requires guests to have manners in order to enter parks? For the love of all things... I saw some of the rudest behavior on this trip from park goers and it gives me sinking feeling that I own DVC.

Lets start with the Halloween Party. Good Lord. An oversold circus of grown men trying to get as much candy as possible. I can't describe how many times I stood in a line 10 minutes long with my 4 year old daughter only to be out-smarted by some adult. Now, let me saw this. I have no problem if as an adult you want to trick-or-treat at the Magic Kingdom. You bought a ticket. Just have as much manners as my four year old. Good lord... the adults with numerous bags up their arm, pushing their way in line to get CANDY (not gold or diamonds) threw me for a loop. I can't help but believe the whole sprit behind it was to was to trick-or-treat in Disney ... not acquire as much candy as possible!! I had a four year old wait her turn, say trick or trick, then thank you and was better behaved than the adults doing one line and then budding to skip into the next line to get candy. REALLY?? You want the Butterfinger THAT much? It's about the experience people... not the quantity of candy. I could GO ON AND ON about that night...like the ladies that pushed my daughter and I out of the way in a trick or treating line so they could get candy for their sleeping kids in the stroller. AGAIN... who gives a hoot about the bundle of candy... isn't it more the experience.

I swear I must be off my rocker because I even experienced crazed gotta get the best darn beach chair at Blizzard Beach so I'm pushing you out of the way people.

So... this is what I took away. I love Disney, all they do and all they present. I just can not believe my fellow citizens of this earth.

Must we push, yell, budge, ignore and offend everyone around us?

Tough trip for me I guess....

Thanks for letting me rant.

I don't expect it to get any better as the prices keep increasing. As the price increases so do people's expectations and their sense of entitlement.

People are raised without manners... It is like some people were raised on a deserted island and do not know how to communicate or how to act in a public environment.

THIS. I have been an annual pass holder for 2 years now and we go about every 4-6 weeks for a "long" weekend....it's about all I can take because of the other guests. I know there isn't anything Disney can do about it, but I have had experiences with other adult that I would have expected from a 3 year old.

I know what you mean OP. We had a similar experience at MNSSHP. I totally didn't understand it. We had 4 kids with us, thought it would be fun to trick or treat at Disney, the lines were ridiculous and the people were just beyond excited about candy you can buy ANYWHERE. Ummmmmm, hello, Target sells everything Disney was passing out. :confused3 And what in the world do you DO with all that candy? We didn't get all that much because it wasn't worth the hassle, but we left most of it at the resort because who wants to lug it all home? There are so many fun things to see and do at MNSSHP, I do not get the candy obsession at all. It's bizarre. I could understand if it was cute Disney candy, Mickey chocolate bars, Pirate coins or something, but it's Kit Kats and Twix bars. One family sitting by us at the parade had two little kids, like 3 and 4, they had 4 bags stuffed full of candy...all I could think was never ending sugar high.

Part of this is the get it for free mentality and it is not just at WDW.

Decades ago I was working for a company with highly paid and professional employees. The company had a Fun Day for the employees and their families. My department had a tent to give out information and trinkets like little first aide kits with band aides, tooth brushes, etc. Stuff that gets thrown in a glove box and forgotten.

My coworkers and I were shocked at the behavior of the employees grabbing what amounts to free junk. :confused3 You would have thought we were giving away food to starving people. :sad2: It really was sad and pathetic. These people were college educated, highly paid professionals and they were acting like 3 year olds scrambling to get the pinata candy.

We saw similar behavior when we went to MNSSHP party years ago, which along with the high ticket price, is why we have not gone back.

Later,
Dan

Chocolate whips people into a frenzy. Stay out of their way.

Seriously, most folks are pretty decent and have manners. It only takes a few to really wreck things

Maybe they could put something in the magic bands that would shock people every time they behaved badly. Just a little zzzzzzzt?

Yeah those people are everywhere I usually don't mind throwing a passive agressive comment their way.

Was I being nice or was I being snarky? Mwhahahahaha.......they'll never know!!!!pirate:

They are like this everywhere. I work at Universal and believe me they are just as rude.

I guess it depends on your field of employment for your POV. I deal with businessmen (Grown Children) who think they know everything. My wife is a mental health therapist to drug addicts and parolees. I've never seen anyone really nasty at WDW but, that could be because I'm so used to it on steroids.

That said, people in general (all ages) are disconnected with common courtesy because most have their heads buried in their phone all day connected to "Social Media." So, when they get what seems to be an easy life experience it's harder. We are so far removed from human experience it's common to see people gazing into their phone while someone is talking to them. We are multitasking 24/7 and when we do get in public we get a "need it now" mentality.

That's just my dime store analysis. That said, I just tend to laugh at them because nothing is going to rain on my parade at the MK..... other than actual rain.

This sounds like the people at Costco with the free samples. My favorite was the grandmother (even had her grandson in the cart) who literally pushed my 11 year old out of her way to get seconds and thirds (she had multiples in her hands). He politely waited for more food to be ready as I shook my head at her rudeness.:sad2:

This is so not a Disney issue. Manners seem to be absent everywhere. Have you been to the supermarket lately? :sad2:

Navigating the aisles of my local Wegman's is insane. People act as if they are the only people on the planet (or at least the only one in the store). They stop their cart crosswise at the end of the aisle, totally blocking the path, while they walk halfway down the aisle to find what they're looking for. Or they suddenly swing around to reverse direction without looking if anyone is coming. Or they have their cart stopped on one side of the aisle while they stand on the other side looking at items, thus blocking the entire aisle. Or they are blindly pushing their cart while their focus is solely on their cell phone and the game of Candy Crush they're in the middle of as they run into others and heaven forbid they apologize. I feel like I'm taking my life into my hands every week when I go shopping.

I had the same kind of trip in early Sept. We went to the first party of the season...both of us are adults. But I have to say that the behavior of other adults was pretty incredible!!! I came home feeling that I didn't really need to go back anytime soon. But I have a trip in 3 weeks scheduled for the Food and Wine 5K, and then my annual Dec trip with other DIS friends. I'm hoping that I can have a better time on these two trips. Maybe stay out of the parks a bit more...avoid the entitled ones!!!

You couldn't play me to attend a party at this point. They were great when they started but they are way too crowded now.

I like Wegman's, but I've had the same experience there. I even had someone purposely slam into my cart (I wasn't moving fast enough, I guess). Its horrible.

I certainly don't fault Wegman's. People just don't think. They're in their own little world. These are the same people who stop dead in their tracks at the bottom of an escalator to decide which way they want to go, ignoring the line of people being forced into them from behind. Or the folks at Disney (to bring this back to the Disney topic) who stop in the doorway to study their park map. Or the family we saw at Epcot in August walking down the path holding hands side by side 6 across. Yep, that's going to work on a busy summer day.

Totally reminds me of an incident on a recent Disney Cruise on the Wonder. During one of the official excursions in Cozumel, they set up a pinata for the kids in our group. Clearly for the kids as the tour guides called the kids and lined them up etc.
and wouldn't you know it as soon as one the children broke the pinata one of the dads came out of nowhere and started scooping up all the candy. we have a picture and everything. looks really silly, this adult male on the ground competing with little kids for free candy. but it's sad too.
