What my 4 year old DD eats...

My 6 year olds entire first grade class. I bought them an edible arrangement for their Valentines day party..when I came to pick up my DD and possibly what was left of the fruit I was surprised to find only 6 strawberries still on sticks! They ate the whole thing going back for 3rd's and 4th's. They had other options like cookies and cupcakes but devoured the arrangment the most.

my son is the same way! He loves his veggies.. yesterday he ate a huge bowl of sugar snap peas...pods and all.. he downed it so quick I thought he hid it!

Our 2 year old is a picky eater. And by picky I mean she won't touch any "kid" food. When we go out to eat we have to order her from the adult menu or we share with her from our plates. She might take a bite or two of the kids food, but doesn't like it so she won't eat much. That means no nuggets, mac n cheese, pizza, fries, cheerios, etc. But she loves sushi, Indian food, etc. Her latest favorite is dipping bread in olive oil and balsamic. She turns her nose up at american and cheddar cheeses but loves goat and other more "odd" cheeses. We were so proud of ourselves at first, but it gets expensive too. haha

Both of my children are non-picky eaters. I remember the first time ds had a cherry tomato. He was about 1. My mom gave it to him, and I thought he wouldn't like it. He bit into it and squirted it all over my shirt. :lmao: Of course, we were in a restaurant!
Needless to say, ds is very excited he won't be a "kid" at WDW this summer, so he'll be on the adult dining plan. DD is jealous as she'll still be on the kids' meal plan! I'm not happy ds is considered an adult: $$$!

YES! and I will tell you, my DD is this way. and she has been all her life. She is now a teen and we still joke that the neighbors wanted to give her bags of lettuce for trick or treat whens she was small!!

My 3y and 15m will eat literally anything from junk to healthy. My 13 year old will try mostly anything. My 10 year old is just starting to venture out of his comfort zone, mostly in reaction to DDP. Oddly enough, he wanted to go to the "adult" plan because it made him feel grown up, the consequence was that chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, and pizza were not always available. (shhh! we didn't tell him he could order off the kids menu) so he was forced to try some more adult things, and found out that he actually likes them. I think the thing about kids eating all manners of vegetables then suddenly not liking them has a lot to do with peer pressure. I saw this with my older one who loved broccoli, but suddenly wouldn't eat it because another girl at school told her it was "gross." I think, at a certain age, it isn't "coo"l to like vegetables.

so it varies child to child and year to year.

this is what I've found w/ mine. DS used to eat adult food when he was a toddler (stuffed mushrooms, shrimp scampi, eggplant parm - these were all my mil's specialities). Then for a year he ate NOTHING but cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. Then he refused most meat for a year. Every year is a new phase, and we roll w/ it. It all balances out in the end.

This is such a breather from the threads of "my kids only eats nuggets and fries":rotfl2: (no offense to those kids' parents though). DS was a very adventurous eater, not so much salad but he liked liver, cabbage, lamb...things with strong tastes. He jokes now that he was so skinny because I never had junk food in the house. Not really true, but hey, $$ was tight when he was little and pickins were slim:laughing:

DD could live on broccoli, caesar salad and white fish like cod or haddock. Money is not as tight so we have this at least twice a week. She doesn't really like red meat unless its a burger at a restaurant, won't touch roast beef, steak, or prime rib. She, though, is my sweet-tooth child so I try to fill her up on the good stuff first.

FWIW, she was a bit pudgy as a toddler and then again at pre-pubescent age and decided she wanted to wear a two-piece this summer and asked for my help. She did WW last fall for 12 weeks and lost 23 pounds:thumbsup2 and can hardly wait to go buy her first two piece suit for our upcoming cruise. God help me, she is growing up.

Except when my kids were 3 and started getting picky, they weren't in school or day care so that theory doesn't always fly. They outgrew it of course as they got older.

What I don't get is the adults that come on here and want to know where they can get nuggets, french fries and pizza because they won't eat anything else. That is weird to me.

My 3-yr-old loves veggies! She's mostly a fan of raw veggies like carrots and celery. But she loves broccoli and cauliflower. And, yes, She LOVES salad! :thumbsup2 Only problem is that she's also not a stranger to the chicken nugget. She's a big fan of unhealthy foods as well. I guess it's safe to say that she's not a very picky eater. She'll try anything once, and she'll eat mostly anything.

would almost always choose fruit over sweets. For 4 years now he has asked Santa for a fruit basket. (Sometimes it's one of the most $$ things under the tree!) This year when we set up the tree he said, "and right here would be the perfect place for "Santa" to leave my fruit basket.."

He loves salad too. Once when he was about 4 we went to a burger place and he wanted a chef salad. (It was like $12.) I was trying to get him to order a grilled cheese and fries ('cause it was about $3). I couldn't believe the argument we were having when he was crying, "but why won't you let me just get a salad!"

His sister is older and has my taste buds for junk. Usually she will order the adult meal and he will get the kid meal and have her side salad.

He is also allergic to spinach. It makes him break out in a rash. But he loves it and constantly asks for it anyway. I told him not to bother to tell anyone that he is allergic 'cause they won't believe him anyway. :rotfl:

Nope, my four year old has never liked vegetables. Even as a baby he would have nothing to do with green foods. At one time I could count on both hands what he would eat, and most of it wasn't healthy. And it wasn't that we didn't offer it. We'd put it on his plate and have a one bite rule...try it. He'd take a cookie over anything except maybe a french fry. If he volunteeringly took a bite of salad I would have a heart attack, let alone eat the whole thing for 3 meals a day. He's actually pretty thin for his height, considering his eating habits. Hopefully one day he'll grow out of it.

Lol - don't be too proud of yourselves - I have kids on both ends of the eating spectrum. Fortunately, the picky ones are much less so now (all but one of my kids devoured a $85 fancy raw sushi platter). My oldest was my most adventurous eater (hated kid food as a toddler, but loved lima beans, tofu, avacado, and when older, refused hot dogs, mac and cheese - still does). However, #2 ate nothing but stouffers mac and cheese for 2 years of his life! Kids are born with certain tastebuds.
