The Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley? I know it was in a movie. Can't think if which one. Thanks!

Shrek.

And an episode of Scrubs.

And an episode of The OC.

Probably more. :rotfl:

ETA: The one I mentioned is by John Cale, actually.

It's a Leonard Cohen song, BTW.

Ah, Shrek, that is it! I googled the heck out of it and my mojo just wasn't working! Thanks!

"Hallelujah" is often used in television shows and movies during scenes involving death or heartbreak. It has been featured in movies as diverse as Basquiat, The Edukators (Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei), A Lot Like Love, Shrek (covered by John Cale in the movie and by Rufus Wainwright on the soundtrack), St. Ralph, Deliver Us from Evil, Kissed by Winter, Barfuss, Lord of War and When Night is Falling, and TV series such as Holby City, House, M.D., Falcon Beach, The L Word, The O.C. (twice by Jeff Buckley, once by Imogen Heap), Hollyoaks, The West Wing, Scrubs, Without a Trace, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, ER, The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Crossing Jordan, Drama and Nicole, Rescue Me, LAX, Lost, Roswell, Ugly Betty, Numb3rs and Nearly Famous. It was also used in the Third Watch and Without a Trace episodes dealing with the 9/11 events. "Hallelujah" was played at the closing of NBC's Dateline on April 17, 2007, covering the Virginia Tech massacre. During the playing of the song, a montage of photographs regarding the events of the tragedy was displayed.

It's in Basquait as well. I think Basquait is when the song just came out.

(An excellent movie, BTW)

Aretha Franklin didn't write "Respect," but we all give her credit for that.

I first heard it on the short lived series, LAX. When I heard the song it was one of those I HAD to get a copy of.

IMHO nobody beats Jeff Buckley.

He was gone way too soon.:sad1:

Jon Bon Jovi also sang it very well, although I am biased when it comes to him.
There have been quite a few artists who did remakes, it is a touching song.

I definitely agree with you about that.
The John Cale version is wonderful too. And I'll have to check out the kd lang version, thanks to the person who posted that link. She's AMAZING.
And of course I love Leonard Cohen - but I think his most beautiful and touching song was "Famous Blue Raincoat". Not nearly as well known as "Hallelujah", though Tori Amos did cover it several years ago. "Thanks for the trouble you took from her eyes, I thought it was there for good, so I never tried". His poetry anthologies are worth reading, he was really more of a poet than a musician.

ITA!!! After I heard him sing this on MTV Unplugged I tried to find this version on Itunes but couldn't. I ended up downloading KD Lang's version and love it too!
