What materials do you get once you are a DVC member?

So we made an offer on a resale at BWV this morning, the seller accepted, we should have the contract via email tomorrow morning and sign and fax it immediately, send in the deposit, and await ROFR. Once we pass (hopefully) ROFR and then wait and then go through closing, what will DVC send us as new members? I have the "Dream" book already, and I am eager to find out what else we will get once we are members!

A blue membership card, that's about it because you bought resale. DVD feels that all of the member info should be passed on from the party that you bought from.

Bonnie,
Read the FAQs for buyers on **********.com. It talks about a new member packet you will receive about 3 weeks after closing. It also states you do not need to wait to receive it to reserve.
I have seen you do not get the tote bag, though. For the thousands we save, we can buy one somewhere else I guess. Or is this something all the cool kids have LOL?
Congrats on your contract. You will be about a week behind us, so maybe you can follow our progress and know what to expect or when to expect.

If you want the cool tote bag, just act like you are gonna buy direct, and then at the last minute bail out, they will send you the tote bag with the contract to sign and buy...see problem solved :rolleyes1

The tote bag is not important to me...with the $$$ I am saving by buying resale I will get over it and buy one for myself IF I feel I need one! :rotfl2:

So when you do get the member materials, what exactly is in there? What will I receive as a member that I did not get with the Dream book? I know the seller will be sending it to me, or I will wait and get it from DVC, or whatever, but I am still going to get it and would like to know what I can look forward to receiving! This is so exciting!!! :)

I recommend that you ask the Realtor / seller for the various legal documents that amount to the Covenants and Restrictions. They include the multi-site offering document and the individual (your specific home resort) site offering, plus some revisions and interval international documents.

While we hope that we'll never need to get into the specific details included in these documents, there might be a time when we might need them. As examples:
- how things might be handled for reservations when a site gets down to the last year or two of the contract,
- what happens if a resort is removed from DVC (e.g. if they were to sell off Vero),
- special assessments

Again, it is likely that we will not need these, but there is always the chance and you should probably have them in your DVC file.

Way to go Pickles. That's right up there with buying a dress to wear to a wedding and returning it after the wedding. Why would you make someone go through all the paperwork just to blow them off to get a $ 15.00 tote bag?

I know that others have reported differently but our first purchase was through resale and all we got were our membership cards. We did receive a welcome kit when we purchased an add on later through DVD.

I agree wholeheartedly with Ed T! Either you are not an owner or you have no concern over your maintenance fees! Why would you actually recommend on a public board that people scam DVC to get a tote bag that increases dues to members??? If someone wants one that bad, pay the postage and you can have mine, but don't scam DVC!

We are buying a resale right now. If we buy an addon to our original contract directly from DVC, will we get these things from DVC?

My goodness, folks here are a little uptight tonight..loosen the undies and see a jest when there is one.

Anyone that desperate for a tote bag deserves to get one however they can!!!

If you want dues reduced discuss with disney all the fancy expensive ad material they are sending out..very snazzy and nice but certainly not cheap

It is a bit of a rot that when you buy resale you don't get those cute little perks. all you get is a piece of paper saying what you own, and a membership card..no fancy presentation of it all either.
the resale places should consider that. and don't give me "you can stop in the timeshare store and get your gift basket" some of us fly to disney, use the ME and bus transports and have no way to trot over and get the free basket

sometimes people like the little freebie things even when theys eem frivolous

Member dues don't pay for sales and marketing expenses, and the tote bags certainly fall under that umbrella.

But yea, the suggestion was pretty tacky.
