What makes The Little Mermaid scary?

I've heard that the Little Mermaid at DS is scary. When we were there last year, I skipped it. My son will be 4 when we go this, year, though, so I'm thinking about it.

What makes it scary? Is it dark or loud? Does something jump out?

Thanks. :)

There is the dark thunder storm with rain mist. And the creepy ursella. DD climbed into my lap during the show, but she did like it when it was all done.

I had tried for 7 years in a row to get DD to see this and she would fall asleep right before the show started everytime!!LOL It is loud at some points but she always slept right through it. This year she finally saw it and we also had DS(3) along. He wasn't afraid at all and really liked it. There are some loud parts and dark parts and when Ursala comes out she is huge so that might scare some kids.

I think some children are just frightened by the dark and the storming. I would explain what will happen to ds ( thunder, loud noises , and darkness) so he knows what to expect. I don't think the attraction is scary over all but you will hear young children crying, I think they also don't know what to expect so that frightens them.

GIANT URSULA!! That giant Ursula that rolls onto the stage freaked out my ds(3) but he wasn't crying- he just didn't like it. This year we'll see if he wants to go. Stormy not scary, giant Ursula way scary

Kids were crying all around us when we saw it two weekends ago. DD and I had not seen it for a couple years, and I did not remember it to be frightening, but evidently there were some little princes and princesses that were very frightened. It is dark, Ursula is pretty loud and you do get a little wet!!!

Here's a pic of Ursula! (FYI photo was taken WITHOUT a flash!)

for proportion sake that Ursula is about 20 feet tall if not more and she comes out with her evil laugh..... that was it for ds he hopped into my lap

It's really a great show...I would explain to your 4 year old what is going to happen and they should be fine. Ursala is big and loud, but she isn't on for all that long and the rest of the show is wonderful.

We watched this show twice and both times my Dd4 hid on the floor behind the seats the whole time Ursula was onstage. As soon as Ursula was gone, she'd pop up like a jack-in-the-box and be fine again.

20 feet! I might hop in someone's lap or hide under my seat too! :rotfl2: LOL. I will have to prepare my DDs for this.
