Buying a second, smaller resale contract at the SAME hotel as the 1st but with a diff UY? And, would it make a diff if the UY's were close, like June and Aug?

Or...

Buying a second, smaller resale contract with the same UY but at a diff resort?

I ask because small contracts are so hard to get, it seems my choices are the above, or buying direct which would almost double the price. eeek.

Well buying a different resort wouldn't make sense to me (for the small type of thing you are describing) unless you only plan to book 7 months or less out, since the points retain their own home resort booking advantage, or if you plan to switch your vacations around each time (at each resort) using a few years worth of borrowing/banking.

I don't think I personally would do either of those things. I would only want one use year, and enough points at different resorts to make a decent length reservation with. I have 4 contracts with the same use year at different resorts. Just keeping up with the points on those is hard enough - MS always has different ideas about which points to use than I do. If you only want a small contract, maybe just buying direct makes more sense so that you can get exactly what you want.

I think if you just look around you might find what you want. We had the same dilema and went with the small contract at @ SSR which we already had a small contract with, instead of OKW,which we had a larger contract. Staying with the same UY is easier to manage i think.

Depends.
For me, I own at VWL so I can have an 11 month advantage in December.
If I get more points it would be a small resale at BWV or Beach Club so I can have an 11 month for Food & Wine.

Use year doesn't really seem to affect me much.

Don't forget to add in your closing costs on a resale. Also if you gt points direct from DVD, they may give you the previous UY points. That way you start out with double points....even on the smaller contracts. Might be worth that extra cost to you. I heard on another thread that SSR is $99 point now direct---may want to call and find out.

I would also only want to deal with one user year and enough points (plus a few) to vacation at one place for more or less a week. Life and plans do change with time. I would also consider any possible vacation pattern changes for the future (longer stays, larger accommodations, change in # of people, kids, etc.).
