What make a check in magical?

Our last check in at BWV was excellent! I let the hub give our info and go "find" the elevators...then mentioned it was his birthday! The CM broke out a pin and his purple marker and made sure he knew who his favorite fab five was! My hubby recieved lots of "freebies" and even a call from Goofy wishing him a happy birthday! It was super magical!

Our other times there were just as special.....we were in DISNEY!!!!!:wizard:

Last October, we arrived at 11am at OKW and waited in line behind this horrible group of people and they were being difficult and holding up 4 different CMs. We had been waiting for quite a while when a concierge says to us, "I can help you over here if you would like." We walked over to her and she said, "I couldn't stand to watch you having to wait so long." She was super speedy with our check in and showed us the map to our room and then said, "Okay and your room is all ready. You can go ahead and stop off there." We were shocked. It was only 11am and we were ALREADY GOING TO OUR ROOM! She said, "I always try to give my guests a ready room." She was so great and helped us start our trip off great. Her name was Jerica for anyone staying at OKW who is lucky enough to get her. :goodvibes

After many years of staying off-site, we have been able to stay on-site for our last 3 trips and I must say that check-in has been the most un-magical part of our stay.

The first 2 times were at POR and there was no particular friendliness or welcoming attitude. This last time was at CSR and it was the same thing there. No smiles, no explanations about the resort, I had to ask for a welcome packet, the CM was just going through the motions. Rather a contrast to the majority of employees we met at the resort and at the parks through the week who were very friendly, warm, and helpful.

We stayed at the CR last year Club Level. We we're met at the entrance by a CM that greeted us, and brought us up to the 14th floor for checkin. We had never experienced that type of service at WDW. It was a nice way to begin our vacation.

BC CM was not at all friendly, gave no explanation of how/where the elevators were. She also did not give any helpful info on the resort itself. She was more interested in chatting with her coworkers. Although we enjoyed SAB, our stay there was our least favorite. Broken dryer door in laundry room (had to keep my foot on it to keep it closed!), other dryer did not work at all. I went to the desk about the dryers and again was given a cold reception.
Ice machine outside our door and elevator noise made for a not so good stay.
We have enjoyed our stays at the value much more. We would love to give it another try, but going to visit the mouse every year, we are limited to the values or sometime moderates.

I was not given directions at BC check-in and felt it was just unmagical!!!

Also I get worried when their tag says "Earning My Ears"!

I don't look for magic at check-in, just a quick, painless process. In fact it drives me nuts when waitng in line behind guests who want to play 20 questions with the CM asking detailed questions about park hours, dining, etc. Go ask at the concierge or do some homework ahead of time, but lets keep the line moving.

Couldn't agree with you more...because while the guest that plays 20 questions is so very happy...the 15 check-ins behind are getting grumpy and take it out on the poor CM...who then becomes less than perky... who then becomes the subject of a thread on this board. Let the flames begin!!!!!

Actually I have never thought about this because they are genrally always magical to me because I am in Disney. However on our sons first trip the CM Michael noted that is was our sons first trip, gave him a button and coloring books, also upgraded our room.:thumbsup2 Now that was magical with extra pixie dust. Not exspected every trip.

To me, it would be EVERYTHING going perfect - no hold-ups, no questions, just give me my room key and tell me to have a wonderful vacation......

As long as check-in goes smoothly and if the room's ready right at that exact moment then it's magical. What made it special last time was getting anniversary buttons and the CM taking her time to find just the right room with just the right view. It made us feel special.

Our check in last Sepetember at Pop was great, they answered all our questions nicely, they got us through quickly, they were polite and cheerful. Our kids got stickers and balloons. :) Couldn't ask for more.

Just walking through the doors of the WL in Dec. 2006 was magical to me. I was finally at WDW and having everyone dressed in the theme along with the theme of the hotel was special I thought. The CM was polite and courteous. We did not receive any upgrades, but our room was ready and when he said "Welcome Home Mrs. Brock." I really felt I had died and gone to heaven. :goodvibes
