I'm leaving for Disney world in 38 days!! :cool1:

I can't decide which camera to take- my old Kodak EasyShare Z740 5mp camera with 10x zoom or my Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm lens. I know that sounds like the dumbest question ever, but I'm worried about weight and readiness. I have a backpack camera bag for the Nikon. Do you think I will be happier with the Nikon or with the ease of the Kodak??

Thanks,
Kristin

I'd take both. I took my D50 w/18-125mm lens(and the 70-210mm for AK) and my Canon p&s. Used the D50 mostly but 1 night we went to the Studios and I didn't feel like carrying my D50 so I brought the Canon. Later, I did wish I had brought the D50 that night.....With the neoprene strap, the D50 + 18-125mm lens wasn't bad to carry at all.

I'd take the Nikon. You know you'll be happier with the pictures from it... ;-)

I would say take both also. If you plan on using the backpack, adding your small point and shoot won't be much extra to carry around with.

For our 09 trip to WDW, I plan on bringing my D60, as well as my Olympus Stylus 1030SW that is made to use underwater for rides where we might get wet, or even if it rains and I'm not comfortable with the idea of trying to protect my dslr all day long.

If you just want to bring one, I agree that the dslr is the way to go. I have walked around a lot recently with my D60 and 18-200mm VR lens and the Op/Tech strap and it has really been comfortable for a surprisingly long time.

Well, you're on the photography board. Most of us take more camera gear than clothes to WDW. Take the Nikon or you will regret it.

Thanks for all the advice!!

What strap should I get for my dSLR? I only have the one it came with, and that isn't too comfortable.

Kristin

PS: I'll probably take both! I like the idea of using the p&s for the wet rides, etc. I will probably use it to take videos, too!

Op/Tech makes really comfortable soft straps that lots of people love. I used my Nikon strap for the first week or two and then ordered the Op/Tech because I heard such good reviews about the neoprene and how much better it was for long-term wearing and it's GREAT (not to mention, the plain black-ish grey color is a lot less obvious than a camera that screams HEY COME HERE, I HAVE A NIKON THAT COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG-SO WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE YOU CAN STEAL)--although I would hope that even if you use the Nikon strap, that wouldn't happen.

I got this one, for $12 I thought it was money well spent.

I agree it is a great strap. I also like to order from Amazon if it comes from Amazon. If it comes from Adorama, order directly from them. Any misorder or problem is a pain if it comes from Adorama through Amazon. Other than that, I agree with everything else!

ITA.... This is a great strap !!! There are different kinds...check out the OP/TECH web site.
I have this one: http://www.optechusa.com/product/detail/?PRODUCT_ID=23

Definitely take both. I always go to Disney with two cameras - my DSLR kit in the bag with all the lenses, and a pocket cam for those days or nights when I don't feel like carrying the big camera but don't want to miss out on any great spontaneous photo opportunities. The biggest kick in the rear you'll give yourself is when you decide not to bring a camera along, then some scene presents itself, and you reach for a camera...that isn't there! The P&S may not deliver the goods quite as nicely as the DSLR, but it takes far better photos than your hand!

As for straps...OpTech seems to be the inside brand of DisBoard Photography board...but I bought a strap before I joined DisBoards and didn't have the inside knowledge! I have a Kata strap that is fantastic - comfortable, stretchable, wide, absorbent, washable, quick release straps, and even has little zippable pockets at the ends for storing extra memory cards or spare battery.

Here's the strap on my camera...the bag is Kata too, BTW:

Definitely take both. When I go, I take my Nikon DSLR and 3 lenses, plus a pocket-sized P&S for me and a little bit larger P&S for DW. On the days when I know I'm going to do some "serious" shooting, I'll take the Nikon. Other days when I don't feel like having 5 pounds of gear strapped to my back, I'll just slip my little Panny Lumix in my pocket.

I've been to Disney 4 times and have gone with either a film or digital SLR each time. Our 2nd trip I mostly used my Canon Powershot S30. I only took 3 rolls of film with my SLR. After getting back and having the film developed I liked the pics from the film SLR MUCH better. 5 weeks later I bought a dSLR and have done 2 more trips with it. I did bring the S30, but it never left the room.

The strap that comes with the Nikon dSLR's is AWFUL at best. DEFINATELY get at least an Op/Tec or equilivent strap. When I recently bought my D300 w/battery grip, I kept the strap in the box and immediately put my Op/Tec strap on the camera. It does make a big difference.
