What kind of washer & dryer do you have?

I'm looking to replace my washer & dryer. I don't know what kind I want. I'm thinking of the Whirlpool Cabrio without the agitator. What are some of the pros and cons of the washer & dryer that you own.

I got my new Maytag Bravos (top load, no agitator) on January 2nd. We've used it a ton since it was delivered and I am extremely happy with it! I just went to throw some clothes in the dryer (I'm still using my 22 y/o dryer), and it made a horrendous noise when I turned it on. When I went in to ask hubby if he heard the noise, he said he thought I was singing like I was auditioning for American Idol!!! :rotfl2: WTH?!?!! I KNOW my singing isn't that bad!!! Looks like I may be going back to purchase the matching dryer sooner than later.

I'm not positive but I think I have a Maytag washer and a Kenmore dryer. I go to Consumers Reports for brand/feature recommendations, online membership is pretty cheap so I always do it when I have a big purchase in the works. After Consumers tells me the brands my big thing is the features. For a Washer I require a finger tip controlled spout/fountain so I can add more water to a load if I want. I also want multi speeds and multi temp selections and it must have a separate spot for my Downey & Bleach. For my dryer I must have a 'more dry' selection for stuff like towels, and I will never ever again buy one with the pull out filter trap on top of the dryer because stuff has rolled in there on accident more than once.

Good luck

Our Whirlpool washer and dryer are less than 2 years old. We have had a couple of problems with the washer. Dealing with their 'customer service' people has been so frustrating that we swear we will neve buy Whirlpool again.

Our GE washer (top loader) is about 2½ years old, and hasn't broken, but it sure sounds horrible. It squeaks very loud -- it sounds really bad. The repairman was in and said there his nothing wrong -- I'm not sure I believe it.

Well, we bought Fisher & Paykil (sp?) a few years back and they have been nothing but trouble! So now we are in the market again and I have no idea what to choose. Should we go with a front loading washer or what? I'll admit that I know nothing about them - just like the way they look.. :)

Time to start researching.

Whichever you decide on, buy the extended warranty! I am going to be replacing a 1 year old front loader (Whirlpool) this week. Even though the washer broke before the one year warranty expired, Lowe's will not fix it for me because I can't provide my receipt. Their corporate customer service is horrible, as they offered to provide me with a copy of the receipt twice but I have not heard from them. So I will either get nasty with them or take my business to Sears and buy a new TOP LOAD washer with an extended warranty.

At this point (one month without a washer) I had decided to just pay for the repairs myself, but the estimate to fix it was $450.

I HATE my Maytag Neptune washer, but I love the drier. It makes a ton of noise, bounces a lot and we get mold issues on the seal and in the liquid dispenser. I also don't think the capacity is that great.

We had the Whirlpool Duets at our old house. Loved the washer, didn't care for the drier as much. My brother has them now and says they still work great 7 years later.

Our Lowe's will look up our receipt with the credit card that was used to purchase. That is a bummer, we've had nothing but luck with them on big ticket items. Small stuff, not so much.

As for the w&d, we have Maytag Neptunes, front loaders. I will never, ever purchase another Maytag in my life. The dryer I have never had a problem with. Last year the washer started to sound like a jet taking off. I do some searching on the internet, find out to stop using immediately and it is more than likely the bearings. I call Maytag to purchase the part, low and behold they do not sell the part. To fix this you need to buy a new drum, spinner arm and one other part totaling $1000 not including the labor. I found an aftermarket part for $80, it took a few hours to fix but it works just fine now. If you google, you will see quite a few with this problem, if it's not fixed it will burn out the control panel which is a $500 part. The w&d both work well, clean great, low energy consumption, etc. I don't have the mold issues, we tend to leave the door open though and I bleach the rubber seal about once a month.

We have the extra large capacity Cabrio and LOVE it. I'm amazed at the amount of laundry that fits in the tub. Before this washer, I had a front loader which held a lot of clothes but the washer was nothing but a tub full of problems.
My dryer is the one that I bought with the front loader.

Thanks all for your advice. I have only owned Whirlpool w&d for the last 32yrs., and have never had a problem with them. I was planning on buying from Lowes but it seems like there are issues with Lowes so I will continue to shop around. I also wanted to know if you can use regular detergent in the new washers as I have about 10 bottles. The new washers require the HE type. If I use less will that be ok?
