What kind of digital cameras do you have?

So I'm thinking that it's time to finally bite the bullet and buy a digital camera. Yes, believe it or not, I am a scrapper without one. So I was wondering if you all could tell me what kind of cameras you use and roughly how much you spent?

I've been looking at the Photography board here and I have a couple models in mind, but I want some scrappers opinions. I want something that will give me the quality I'm used to with 35 mm. I also don't want to spend a small fortune.

Thanks in advance!!

I have the Canon Powershot A620 - and would recommend it to anyone. It's 7.1 mp, uses AA batteries, has a flip out LCD screen, tons of modes to help you get the shot... and it's very fast! I paid about $270 for it a few months ago.

I have a Kodak EasyShare--a Z740, I think. I LOVE it! We use it for everything. I never wanted a digital camera. I was terrified of "losing" the pictures. We always used both the digital and the film cameras. When we went on vacation last summer, I had taken 11 rolls of film with me (of course it was a Disney trip. . .you understand the need for much film!). We forgot the film camera! On that trip, I became a digital camera convert--first out of necessity, then because I really liked the quality of the pictures.

I don't really remember how much we paid for ours (I'll have to ask DH and see if he remembers, and I'll let you know.) I do know that we got it at Best Buy, and it has gone down considerably in price since we got it (and it wasn't outrageous when we bought it). We've had it almost a year and never had any problems.

Ok, there goes my "camera novel". Good luck with your camera search! :teeth:

I have a Sony Cybershot 7.2 megapixels and I really like it. It is easy to use and it has a big screen to view the pictures.

I have two different HP cameras and love both of them.

I have a canon digital rebel 300d and an olympus 400 digital. I love both of these cameras.
THe Canon is an SLR with 6megapixel so I can play around with the exposure a bit and also have the ability to focus and change lenses when and where I want to .
THe olympus is my point and shoot. I think it is a 4megapixel and I have nothing bad to say about it.
THey are both good cameras. I have never had the need to take a 6megapixel shot as I am not going to blow my photos up poster sized, most of the time I think they are taken at 4.
What I would say is some places do rent cameras find one and rent one or two that you are interested in for a day. Use them and see what you think. I have a few friends who didnt do this, got a camera and then had to buy another because it didnt do what they wanted it to do. Also buy the best camera you can as they go out of date quickly. I know I may be flamed over this but megapixels are not the end all mark of a good camera to me. I would look at what you are going to use the photos for and buy towards that. Dont by more megapixel then you will get worth out of. Does that make sense?

WE HAVE THE HP I BELIEVE THE MODEL IS 770? MY HUBAND DID ALOT OF RESEARCH AND CONSUMER REPORTS GAVE IT A GOOD RATING
I AM NOT VERY "GADGET SAVY" BUT I CAN USE THIS CAMERA AND REALLY ENJOY IT :thumbsup2

I just got the digital Rebel XT for Christmas, but before that I had the Sony DSC P72 (3 megapixel) and thought it was awesome, but it sure needed batteries charged often. It took great quality pictures, and unless you are enlarging photos to poster size or bigger than 8x10, the higher megapixels won't be important. I also love my new Canon, but with the SLR technology it definitely bumps the price range up. It just depends on how much you use your camera and what price range you feel comfortable with. You can still get awesome photos with a non-SLR camera, just not the option to change lenses, flashes, or as many features, etc. Good luck in your decision! Also, for digital in general, you will love the flexibility of being able to edit your photos in the computer and share them online with others without having to scan them. You will wonder what you ever did without one!

I have the Kodak P850. I got it from www.beachcamera.com. I have had 3 kodaks and liked them all. the P850 is 5.1 MP and has a 12x zoom with an image stabilizer. I think I paid $360 2 months ago for it.

hi
fuji finepix f10. specially recomended for low light photography. it auto selects from iso 60 - to 1800. it has a battery which charges like a mobile phone which lasts for about 500 shots. i have some wonderful photos of the fire works and dark rides having turned the flash off. :yay:

my sister has the cannon is s1, she loves it. I've seen the action shots she's taken, and they are awesome! she says the best thing about the camera is the image stabilization feature. Now there is an s2. The s1 was about 300$. You can also get lens to attach to the camera fairly cheap. she has a telephoto and wide angle lens now as well. kate

The S2 should be coming down in price as the S3 is coming out in May. That is the one I am waiting for! :Pinkbounc

I have the Kodak EasyShare Z740 like StitchIsOurHero!

We just love it! I just bought it a few months ago w/ the tax check! I spent about 200.00 on it..but I love it.. I love all the features.. I just searched the kodak.com website.. I like the "sports" feature so we can take picture of the action shots. It also has a feature to take multiple pictures at a time.. I've used that once and liked it.

I took 11 rolls of film in addition to my hubby's digital camera (another Kodak) needless to say my DH insisted I buy a digital too!! Now, we have a 35mm for the kids to use so we can get the "kids perspective" of our adventures!

Good luck with your search!

I have the Canon Power Shot S2IS and really like it a lot! I paid around $500 for it. Shortly after I purchased it, I took it to a Pacers game with me and the pictures I took are amazing- especially since we were sitting in the nosebleed section. I had been debating between this and a digital Rebel for awhile. The S2IS made sense for me because it can be used as a point and shoot while having some of the capabilities of the Rebel. I don't know much about photography so this gives me a chance to learn a little w/o spending a bunch of $$$ (with the Rebel I would want several accessories).

Did you go to the Pacers game last night? That must have been a great night!!

I have the Canon S2 IS and love it. In fact, I purchased this camera last August and then loaned it to my DS (22) for a trip to NYC. He took the camera to Times Square on New Years Eve and someone stole it  (camera, bag and everything). So when I replaced it I decided to get the same camera again. Now, I wished I had waited for the S3 IS that will be coming out in May. The IS cameras are awesome. I highly recommend.

I have a Kodak DX6490 and I love it! I was hesitant to go to digital too, but DH got it for me for my bday, so what do I do?

It is 4 mp, has a good-sized screen on the back for viewing, 10x optical zoom which I absolutely love, and it uses a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, so no buying batteries everytime I turn around. It lasts quite a while between chargings. I think we paid around $300 or so for it, but it's almost 2 years old now, I'm sure it's been replaced by something newer but similar.

My dh is a professional photographer (I'm an amateur of course!) and we both use Olympus digital cameras. His is professional grade, mine is the C-765 (I've had it for about 2 years -- it cost under $500). We LOVE them. We both had equivalent Canon cameras in the past and liked them well enough, but in our opinions, the colors from the Canons do not even compare to the Olympus cameras!

In fact, one of the studios my dh contracts to (it's a small local chain) used Canon cameras exclusively until they saw the colors and richness from my dh's Olympus. The studio owner has now sold all of his Canons and replaced them with Olympus products.

A good way to do a non-scientific comparison is to take your own memory card to someplace like Best Buy. Put it into their cameras and take a shot or two of something in the store (make sure it's always the same thing so you can do an accurate comparison). Then go home and compare the quality of pics from each camera on your computer. :)
