what kind of crowds can we expect Fri Sept 22nd and Sat Sept 23rd?

Would we need to stay at a universal resort for the FOTL, or would lines be acceptable to just stay off-site? Any advice would be appreciated, we may be trying to squeeze a couple of universal days into our disney trip!!
