What items will we need for our rental home?

We have a rental home in Indian Ridge Oaks. I know it includes pots and pans, dishes, silverware, etc., but should we plan on bringing stuff like toilet paper, garbage bags, dishwasher detergent, etc.? We're stopping at the grocery store on our way to the house from the airport, so I don't really want to buy what we don't need but don't want to make another trip either. Thanks!

Sometimes there's dish deterg from previous renters, along with a few garbage bags and sometimes there's not. Publix is only a few minutes away from IROaks at the Reunion intersection in Davenport. No highways to contend with, just a straight shot down Old Lake Wilson Rd to the lights and it's across the intersection.

Thanks! Is this Publix easier to get to than the one on Irlo Bronson (which is the only one I knew about!)?

It's a bit different, for when we go to a timeshare condo, I like to pack a box of things like Spike (it's a seasoned salt), some other seasonings that we like, coffee, the splenda with fiber that we like, other small pantry items that we like to have.

I also have picked up a roll or two of paper towels even when the condo provides them, as I like nicer ones. Also, I bring or buy a pack of paper plates and cutlery, so we don't have to do dishes all the time. I pick up the other stuff at the store, plus last time I got a bottle of 409 cleaner, to keep the kitchen and bathroom clean.

It helps me to put out a box a couple of weeks ahead of time, then start filling it with the little things. I have shipped it ahead or maybe added the things to a checked bag (except careful if anything is liquid, double and triple wrap in bags).

Oh yeah - also ziploc bags, and Reynolds nonstick wrap!

In all of my rentals experiences, there has only been a minimal amount of any of those items in the villa. Last year was the first time there was any dish soap or soft hand soap in our villa. There were partial rolls of toilet paper in all the bathrooms and one tablet of dishwasher detergent. We have always had to buy kitchen sized trash bags. If you have room in your luggage, you could take enough trash bags for each day of your trip. We travel with extended family and generate a lot of trash (especially since there is no recycling down there), so we always just buy a box of trash bags. I always pack dryer sheets in my luggage - it helps keep my clothes smelling fresh and that way I don't need to buy a whole box and only use 10-15 sheets of it. Depending on the timing of my flight, I prefer to drop hubby and the kids off at the villa and then hit the grocery store. They get to hang out at the pool and I get to buy stuff without whining kids.

I agree that it's a great idea to bring your own seasonings and anything you know you'll need that's small and easy to pack. Just make a list of everything you use on a daily basis and decide whether you'll bring it from home or buy it at Publix.

If you buy everything at Publix, you'll end up with a long list and you'll either have to cart leftovers home or toss them. Also, I'm not crazy about hunting down items in unfamiliar stores. Things I find easy to pack are: small salt & pepper shakers, baggies of spices, dryer sheets, garbage bags, bars of soap, and I squash toilet paper and paper towels to make them fit in suitcases.
