I'm sure we can bring our own sand toys, but can we bring an inexpensive blow up raft that has not been inflated? We plan to toss all of these items or "donate" the toys to Scuttles Cove if possible. Trying to save more pennies so we can spend more dollars!

We were just there and I saw a man inflating a raft. I thought it was kind of funny since you can rent tubes and other floaty things so cheaply but you definitely can bring one.

Inflatable floats are on the list of prohibited items.

Prohibited Items – Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
What items are prohibited on board the ship and on Castaway Cay?

A.
In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for all Guests and crew, the following items are prohibited on board Disney Cruise Line ships. If found, the items listed, and anything similar, will be held in storage for the duration of the cruise. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Items prohibited on board ship and on Castaway Cay.

  • Firearms, ammunition, knives (including dive knives), swords, daggers and any other types of weapons
  • Realistic replicas of firearms and weapons
  • Highly flammable liquids and combustible substances
  • Liquid oxygen
  • Non-prescribed controlled substances, illegal drugs, medically prescribed and synthetic marijuana
  • Hookah pipes
  • Power tools and toolboxes (except those utilized by vendors providing services)
  • Potentially dangerous sporting equipment, including baseball and cricket bats, hockey and lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, fishing gear and archery equipment. (Golf clubs are permitted as long as they are stored inside your stateroom.)
  • Scuba equipment such as tanks, spears, spear guns, slings, dive knives, pry bars, and underwater scooters. (Masks and snorkels are allowed)
  • Remote-controlled helicopters, airplanes, drones or similar devices
  • Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats, pool noodles, inflatable pools and wagons
  • Bicycles, skateboards, inline and roller skates and any wheeled footwear
  • Wheeled transport devices other than those required by Guests with disabilities
  • Electrical appliances such as rice cookers, hot plates, coffee makers, blenders, electric irons, bottle sterilizers and warmers and electric blankets
    • Please note: A limited number of approved bottle warmers and bottle sterilizers are available upon request through Guest Services
    • All ships offer self-service laundry facilities with irons and ironing boards. Portable fans are permitted in your stateroom. However, you must contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve your fan.
  • Candles and incense
  • DVD, VCR, and Blu-ray players
  • Gaming systems such as Playstation®, Xbox and Nintendo Wii (due to compatibility issues with the stateroom TVs)
  • Musical instruments
  • Ice chests and coolers, except for those permitted for storing medications, baby food and items related to dietary restrictions
  • Homemade, precooked or perishable foods or open food containers. Also, please refer to our guidelines on restricted food and beverages
  • Over-the-door hanging organizers
  • Metal detectors
  • Fireworks or pyrotechnics

Possibly the guest you saw was unaware of the rule and slid under the radar, or was asked to remove it after you saw him inflate it. But it is definitely against policy, as PP shared above.

Enjoy your cruise!

:offtopic: But it's interesting that it SAYS "coolers" aren't permitted, when they sell coolers filled with water bottles. Maybe they mean the hard-sided Igloo type.

They want you to buy their cooler and water bottles. So yes, they allow the one they sell. Just like they rent floats but don't allow you to bring your own.

This is the "cooler exception" explaining what/when one is allowed. Any other size or use is officially against policy.
  • Coolers no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" [30.5cm x 30.5cm x 30.5cm], as carry-on luggage only for storing medications, baby food or items related to dietary restrictions only.
I'm sure there's some safety aspect involved in the float prohibition, and I know there have been issues of stateroom damage with soft-sided coolers that leak. So the rules may not be strictly revenue-driven.

Enjoy your cruise!

Is there any place I can see a pic of the cooler they sell?
Just google Disney Cruise Line cooler. It's the navy one with red straps. We purchased one in May on the Fantasy while waiting for our excursion, I think it was maybe $20 and it came with 5 or 6 waters. You can reuse it for your excursions and only purchase the water for them. We love ours. My husband uses it when he goes white water kayaking.

There were people that brought their own blow up toys last Friday. We even saw people with those pool noodles. When I asked where they found them, they said they had purchased them at the Mega grocery store in Cozumel earlier in the week.

Unless, of course, you bring your DCL-purchased one back to use for a future cruise.

But when we do that (same with the cooler we bought on Royal), I wouldn't bring it onboard "unfurled". It would be flat in a bag.

But taking it onto CC wouldn't be a problem.

I wasn't allowed to bring my group of super-hot leather-clad manservants. "Not family appropriate" they said. Feh to you, Mickey!

They're just worried about heat stroke; since they are super-hot and all. ;)

I was just searching on the gifts & amenities page for the cooler -- not seeing it, just a Frozen-themed cooler. Do you have to purchase it on CC?

And if you do decide to purchase their cooler and water, don't make the mistake we did by purchasing right on the pier when you get off the ship. They walk around on the beaches and sell them as well, so you don't have to carry it the distance from the boat to the beach. We were headed to Serenity Bay, so it was a bit of a distance.

you can purchase it on the ship at anytime. they had mini bars set up by the drink stations and the coolers were displayed there for purchase most days. i'm sure you could ask any bartender and they would get you one (there is an tip applied to price).
i think i'm the only one who doesn't like it. i liked the square one they had years ago. being round, it seems like it would be harder to carry, store, that it wouldn't hold as much. thats just my thought, as i say i think i'm the only one who dislikes it.
