What is your rain strategy?

We are going to MK Thurs, and they are predicting 70% chance of rain

What is your strategy in the rain (with a 4 year old)?

We were there over spring break and it poured on our MK day. We had WDW ponchos and opened one up over the stroller and kept going. When it was torrential downpours we would find shelter but if it's just sprinkling we went about our day wearing ponchos. My son thought it was funny when he'd get drops on him, lol.

I will say this... when the rain chances are over 50% I wear flip flops or crocs because they dry quicker than soaked sneakers. And for some reason the park seems to empty out when there's a heavy downpour so we always stick it out because wait times magically come down during/right after a downpour.

Put a poncho on everyone and ignore the rain. Keep going. Have fun. Bring extra shoes to vacation so you can wear dry ones next time you go out. Dry sneakers at resort laundry room if not dry when needed along with a room towel. Stay in laundry room and babysit the dryer, shutting dryer door each time sneakers thump it open. Ask self why you are here babysitting dryer while everyone else is in the room napping. Get over it. Go back to park. Have fun. Repeat.

Ponchos, all the way. And a small waterproof bag (hotel laundry or otherwise) in case the rain stops and you want a place to store them. Rainy days can also be a very strategic time to go on rides that typically have longer lines, since traffic may be slightly less and also you at least get to stay dry while you're waiting!!! : )

1. Wear crocs. They are great in wet weather and they dry quickly.

2. If you can, bring a small towel in your park bag.

3. Bring ziplock bags to put electronics and other must-keep-dry items inside.

4. If you're not at WDW yet and have time to shop, get an actual rain jacket for your kid. Mine swim in those dollar-store ponchos but do great in their rain jackets.

5. Wear a hat under your poncho to keep the rain off your face. Makes everything easier when you can look forward, not down.

6. Wait out a huge downpour inside

7. Have extra clothes, especially for children. Nobody likes being stuck in damp clothes if the rain comes on unexpectedly.

We are bringing Panchos and we will keep going rain or not... :) I hope not for rain but its not going to keep us out

We arrive Thursday-- right about the same time as that huge storm system currently wreaking havoc across the midwest/south. Our first three days the weather predicts 90%+ chance of thunderstorms and rain. We will make the best of it. :goodvibes

1. Poncho. Thow it on over your park bag/camera and you and everything on you stays dry.

2. Crocs. No soggy feet or squishy socks.

3. Continue as normal.

Put on a poncho and keep on truckin', partyin' like it's 1999! Well, not really, but yes to the poncho part and keep on touring unless there's lightning.

Throw on a poncho and keep truckin!!

If it does get really bad, or we don't want to spend the money on poncho's, we'll do some indoor stuff while the storm is really bad, and honestly, the park empties out while we do that, and then we just do things like puddle jump and walk quickly to our next attraction and have FUN! Florida in the rain is still warmer than back home, so we're set lol!!

I also agree with a pp about shoes, it may be a bit chillier on the toes, but having shoes that will dry faster after a rain storm is a FABULOUS idea, no one likes walking around in squishy sneakers for the next 3 days...

1. Wear crocs. They are great in wet weather and they dry quickly.

But make sure the tread is good on them. I almost went skiing down the monorail ramp a few years back :)

I have always been one of those that say poncho up and carry on commando! I've had great experience in the rain, especially at MK. I remember DS laughing hysterically as we rode BTMR over and over without getting off and we called it MK's newest water ride. Great times, wonderful memories. But that was just regular rain.

2 years ago we were at MNSSHP and it was AWFUL hours and hours of rain, just miserable. I felt so bad for all the kids in their beautiful costumes, some you could see had so much time put into them. It was just all ruined.

Then last September we were at AK and torrential downpours came-again just hours of rain. We sat through FoTLK 3 times, they didn't put you out in the rain, which I thought was very nice, but it was still an awful day. I'm talking so much rain we were wading through various parts of the park and our resort.

I thought we'd try May on for a change, I'm not happy to hear about 90% chances of storms :crazy2:

Anyone know if these are predicted to be all day events or is it 90% chance that it will rain at some point in the day? We will make the best of it no matter, but I'm going to hope and pray it's not like last year :(

According to Weather.com, the only day that even has a 90% rain forecast is Thursday. ;) This will be our HS day, so I am hoping for some indoor show time.

After Thursday, Saturday has a 60% chance and then the rest of the time should be smooth sailing.

Definitely get Keen or Teva sandals. Crocs may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

I second this. While some people swear by Crocs, I find them slippery on wet pavement. River sandals like Tevas or similar, are much surer-footed, and cooler (temperature-wise, if not fashion-wise).

And significantly more stylish :)

Thank you!!! I am always so confused by Croc recomendations! Tevas and Keens are so much better for your feet and are made for rainy/wet conditions.
