What is your "must have" Disney book?

My favourite Disney book is one from childhood...a Frontier-style Mickey flip book...aah the memories.

I know that isn't what you meant, so here's another vote for "Designing Disney", "Realityland" and for the Imagineering Field Guides as well as for "Disney War" (not through it quite yet, but its a good read).

I also have a massive, heavy and beautifully printed "The Art of Walt Disney" that cheers me everyday because it sits out in full view.

Lastly, I enjoy "Disney Dossiers: Files of Character From the Walt Disney Studios", a kids book with each set of facing pages depicting a file folder full of details about the character with drawings and insets of posters, some vintage ones even. Most are devoted to one character but there are others for groups like Comical Cows, Brer Beasties and Great Mice of Mystery.

I just finished reading "Spinning Disney's World" by Charles Ridgway.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to all!!!!

Here are two more that everyone must have:

The Wonderful World of Disney Television by Bill Cotter. A complete history from the very beginning with a brief description of each and every show that ever ran.

The Disney Movies by Leonard Maltin. Again, a complete history from the very beginning with descriptions of ALL the films.

Both are trips down memory lane!!!

We just received the newest Imagineering book through Borders. It is a wonderful update to the 1995 edition. It is totally new and was edited by Melody Malmberg, the wife of Imagineer Joe Rohde.

The graphis are great tand there are several "plussed" sections with expanding photos or special features.
The price is $60 but Borders has online discounts.

I have read most other Disney books mentioned here. This one is a must.

My brother sent me the Pixarpedia for Mother's Day (I know - what a sweet surprise!). It's got amazing full-color two-page spread from each Pixar movie. It also has a lot of detail - who knew that someone really wrote a short backstory for each of the Supers in the Incredibles and the other racing cars in Cars??? It's also good as a coffee table book, but right now my two oldest like to pick pages to read from at bedtime. Yes, I'm raising them right, at least in that respect...

Definitely DisneyWar. I read it before I moved down to do an Internship. Learned so much. Too bad a drink spilled on it, so I gave it away.

I just finished "The Animated Man" a biography of walt disney by Barrier. I bought it on Amazon, an interesting read. If anyone wants to book swap through the mail, let me know. I really want to read "Spinning Disney". I would be willing to mail back when done, or if you just want to switch for good that is fine too. Animated has a description on Amazon w/ lots of good reviews, it focuses on the animation studio and many of the workers there. PM me!

This is one of my favorites. I may have to order the one signed by Marty Sklar.

I did order the Marty Sklar one.

And because Marty signed it, it is my favorite.

I couldn't get through the Gabler book. I read a little of it between other books. It's thorough and very well documented, but more than a little dry, IMO.

I liked Disney War.

Spinning Disney's World was okay, but I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites. The stuff I liked best in that book had nothing to do with Disney, really.

The biography of Walt published by Disney was good, IMO. One-sided and obviously flattering, but good. I stole his, "You can't top pigs with pigs" line from that book.

I really enjoyed Disney's Haunted Mansion book...but I really enjoy the HM.

I get every stupid little book they put out, including all the Imagineering Guide books. My favorite of the little books is the Windows one. I think that concept out to be expanded on a bit.

If you liked Disney War, you would probably like Married to the Mouse and Project Future. I found both to be pretty good reads.

I also loved the Leonard Mosely's Disney's World and Walt Disney by Bob Thomas, but Neil Gabler's Walt Disney: The Triumoh if the American Imagination is my favorite. Why it is left off the Backstage Magic recommended reading, I just don;t understand! I did enjoy Disney War; it really made me want to shake Michael Eisner! A friend of ours borrowed, but never returned, it so I haven't read that one in a while. The Art of Walt Disney by Christopher Finch is also a beautiful book!

Michael Eisner is coming out with a new book called "Working Together: Why Great Partnerships Succeed" (released today - 9/27/10). I seem to remember that being his downfall at Disney, NOT working together with the other executives (except for Frank Wells who died tragically back in 1994).

Michael Eisner was on The View last week talking about his book. I checked it out and it has chapters about about different company partnerships. One chapter is about him and Frank Wells, the other chapters aren't Disney related. It wasn't getting very good reviews.

I also really like the books written by CM's about their time at Disney. Kevin Yee wrote a great one called MouseTrap: Memoir of a Disneyland Cast Member. I also read Castmember Confidential, but wasn't as thrilled with that one and never did finish it.

Have you read Kingdom Keepers? Good Disney beach reads.

I also really, really enjoyed "Building a Company" biography of Roy Disney.

And recently out in paperback, The Pixar Touch. Very interesting read.
