What is your first Universal memory?

I love Universal, and I have been fortunate to have gone to both Hollywood, and Orlando.

My first Universal experience was June 1985, Hollywood.

I remember, as a high schooler, thinking that the ET attraction was cool... and how I wished to be around when Back to the Future was going to open... There was a prototype car on display, and some displays stating soon to be coming Back to the Future Ride!


The ET attraction was something so different, and it was a demonstration how the blue screen technique worked. ..

There was a boneyard, and I took a picture of the huge phone used in the Lily Tomlin movie Incredible Shrinking woman..

I remember the tram tour, and taking pictures of the Psycho House.


I remember the Conan the Barbarian show... (I have a pic somewhere of a shirtless Conan!, WOW!)

The meet and greet were the Transformers.. there is a picture that my sister were made to pose with.. the whole time my sister was flirting with the person inside the suit...


I seem to remember some classic stars as well.. but I don't recall who..


SO that is 1985, USH!

What is your first US memory?

1990. Standing in line for Kongfrontation at USF and just being in awe at the theming.

My first memory is of the "Dynamite Nights Stunt Show". My mom even recorded me there, cheering on the bad guys. In the dark, I thought they were the heroes.

Any truth to those rumors of a new stunt show going up on that lake?

I went later in life for the first time, in my early thirties. But my most vivid memory is screaming and cheering at the end of T2!
I remember coming out and thinking :"Gee, I GOT come with the kids here next time".

I can't remember my first memory, but my best memory is when my kids first got drenched at the Curious George park.

My first memory is of the Back to the future ride. It was the first ride of that type that I had ever been on. I can just remember raving about how amazing it was.

My first memory was back in 1988, seeing the Bates House from Turkey Lake Rd.

Walking through Amity for the first time...which would have been as an adult in 1994...I just thought the theming was wonderful...and the little touches like "Quints Nautical Treasures" (which is no longer what it's called ) added something extra special to it. It was very cool, and very impressive to me.

Now, I went to IOA for soft opening in May of '99 and I was in love from the moment I hit port of entry!

I discovered themeparks very LATE in life.... 43 to be exact...

I was very sick in the 1999, a chronic illness they could not diagnose. I had just gotten over surgery and was getting a pretty hefty settlement from a car accident. I remember reading in the Sunday travel supplement that there was a brand new park opening up in Orlando and it would have a Dr Seuss area there. My son was a BIG Dr Seuss fan so it caught my eye. Knowing I could not stand on the lines for long the VIP tour information was the selling point for me!

I booked through my travel agent and we drove down to Orlando to see this brand new park with the Dr. Seuss area!!

I knew NOTHING about Universal or Orlando. We went straight to the Port of Entry the and rest is HISTORY. Being a comic book fanatic from way back when, the Marvel Comic theme stole my heart. There has been no turning back for either of us since. BTW, I never felt sick a day while I was there, and my son says it's the only place in the world I go that I can relax. That's the main reason I go!

And yes, I went to USO BEFORE Disney, unlike most people!

Many Moons ago...
I remember going riding the Boys Club Field Trip Bus to USH. It was the year JAWS the Movie came out and they were Promo-ing it all over. The Tour Tram featured Jaws Highlight scenes on it's interior bannerss and I remember passing some retention pond and the guide stating that "this is where they filmed some climactic scenes for the new Blockbuster film JAWS". I rememeber ny youthful mind thinking, "Wow! Hollywood's Great!! Sharks in Rentention Ponds. Hollywood MAGIC in action." Little did I know that after seeing JAWS at the Theatre I would be afraid to even think about going into any body of water.

I remember JAWS being closed. Seems the contractor really screwed things up and that I would not be able to see JAWS until some lawsuit was resolved.

My very first memory was of Universal Studios Hollywood, 24 years ago! We stayed at the Sheraton Universal Hotel and believe it or not (must have been cause I was a kid) my biggest memory is of the tram that took us from the hotel to the gates of Universal where we were able to get free popcorn! I also remember seeing Sheriff Lobo, Claude Akin cross the street while filming his show and he stopped and talked to us all for a bit. The KIT car was there also from Nightrider.

My first memory of Universal Orlando was December of 1990. I worked for a travel agency and they offered our office a fam trip with free passes to check it out! It was all decked out for the holidays and it was love at first site for me...so much so that when I returned I told my husband pack your bags were taking a long weekend (the very next weekend too!) so I could share the excitement with him. My favorite memory from that trip is our picture with Kong

Our first time at Universal was in 2001 and our very first ride was Hanna-Barbera. It was awesome. I'm so happy we got to experience it before they got rid of it.

Robinrs, that's a wonderful story. I think you didn't really know too much about Universal, and you got a nice surprise!

My first Universal exposure was 1989. My DW and I had just moved to the L.A. area. We went one weekend to Disneyland and the next weekend to USH. My wife loved the Psycho part of the tram ride, I loved Earthquake. We couldn't do everything those two weeks because my DD was negative six months old .
First USF trip was 1991, after we had moved to southern Alabama. Being native New Yorkers, we both loved Kong.
