What is your favorite NON Disney Half Marathon

Oh great, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear too...thanks! My PR is 1:59 on a pretty hilly course (with only a mini taper), so one would think I would be able to knock a few minutes off of that. Thinking about 2015, but have some Disney withdrawal, so trying to cheer myself up by planning ahead :rotfl2:

As far as non-Disney races...the past few years I've really enjoyed the BAA half in Boston, NYC Runs Central Park Marathon/Half (inaugural race), NYC Half (but not worth the pain to get into if you don't get lucky with the lotto), and, surprisingly, RNR New Orleans.

We are also planning on Goofy 2015 but I am having a hard time realizing we won't be there in 2014!

completely off topic, but coach I feel like you would know this - approx what half time (to support the marathon corral time) do you need to support a "a" and "b" placement for goofy?

My sil does a half marathon in around 1:50 more or less and a 4:30 full more or less and she had a C corrall placement for the Goofy challenge.

I do a 2 hour half marathon and if my memory serves me right that put me in corral C for the full in 2012. My husband was in corral B with a 4 hr marathon.

That is strange. I have around a 4hr marathon (3:56) and was placed in A for the marathon. I wasn't running Goofy but would think they would put everyone with the same marathon time together. Maybe 4:00/2:00 is the cutoff for A corral. I would have gone to guest relations for a C placement with a 2 hour half time, that is too far back! You should have been in at least B if not A. I have never started a Disney race farther back than A with a 2 hour HM proof of time and I just ran my 6th Disney race. Only time with a bib farther back than that was rookie race with no prior race.

Oh this is so interesting with everyone's different reports with the corrals! I was just more curious then anything. At the end of the day, as long as I'm seeded fairly, I'm fine with it. And all the motivation to go kill it on my hill repeats tomorrow haha

Not entirely sure about Goofy, but DH and I have HM times of 1:51 and 1:54 and were in A for the full so probably something similar?

They may place goofy a little different. I had a 1:56 half and was placed in D for goofy. I may be wrong. Year before I had a 1:46 and was in A for the marathon.

Interesting! I will see what happens this year.

My favorite 1/2 ever is a 1,500-2,000 person local race, the Superhero 1/2 in NJ. I had the most fun at this race and registered right when it opened back in November. When there was a possibility the Brooklyn 1/2 would be the same day I knew without even thinking about it that Superhero would win every time.

There's something to be said for running through residential neighborhoods where people put their sprinkles out for you to run through and spectators can just bring their lawn chairs and hang out along the course...

Has anyone done the Woodrow Wilson bridge 1/2 in DC?

Martain Half Marathon Dearborne Michagan
Sea Wheeze Half Marathon Vancouver BC
Xduro World Championships Kuloa Ranch Hawaii

I've really enjoyed the Country Music Marathons (and Halfs) I've done, also the Flying Pig has a great weekend full of entertainment going on. I'll let you know how the Indianapolis 500 mini is a in a couple of months.

Going to the Indy 500 too!

The Hershey half in Hershey, PA is a great local race. The proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network. The kids and their families line the course and cheer their thanks as you run by. Some of the course goes through Hershey Park and in downtown Hershey the chocolate characters are out handing out, what else? Hershey chocolate!!!! This year's medal looked like a Reese's peanutbutter cup. The shirt and race bag were great, too.

I really liked the Philadelphia half course. You get to do a lot of simultaneous running/sight seeing and the majority of the course if covered in cheering onlookers!

I've also heard really good things about the Hartford half (though I've yet to run it myself.) I've done parts of the course during other HMF races and am a big fan of the area. Flat with lots to look at!

Is that the Nashville rock and roll in April? I've heard the hills are killers

There is a race in New London, CT that is run to and from Ocean Beach that not technically a 1/2 but it's 11.6 miles and was started 52 years ago. It is run in honor of John Kelly who won the 1956 Boston Marathon and was an olympian. It's a great race and listen up: IT'S FREE!!! Always has been and the goal is that it always be.

I also like the Nike Women's Half in SF and teh Indy Mini-Marathon.

Did the Maui Half in Lahaina and loved that. Ran along lookinng at the ocean views!
