What Is Your Favorite Good Neighbor Hotel?

Thanks everyone for all of your replies! I really do appreciate it. We checked into all of them and we settled on the Howard Johnson. But given that I'm super frugal I'll be looking for specials right up until the trip so if I find a better rate we might switch.

We've stayed at Hojo numerous times and one trip we did have a scooter in the room and it fits just fine so don't worry about that aspect. Make sure they know you have a scooter because some of their buildings don't have elevators so you'll want the first floor, or a room in a building with an elevator.

Ah, we stayed in Bldg 4.

Might be worth paying more to stay at Bwppi across entrance for mobility reasons.

My favorite is the Candy Cane Inn. No interior corridors or elevators, but you could get a ground floor room. It's pretty small, has free continental breakfast, and is a short walk to the parks. Also has its own dedicated shuttle every 30 minutes, which is nice on those late nights! You might need to get one of the larger rooms if the scooter needs to fit inside the room. Have fun wherever you end up!

We like it too...its convenience can't be beat. They do charge for parking, however, $10.00 per day.

Okay, it's the Best Western Anaheim Inn which is almost right next to the BW Park Place Inn that has free parking.

Forget inside corridors and go with the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn or BWP Anaheim Inn. The convenience of being so close is hard to beat when you are using a scooter and have young ones.

We stayed at Desert Palms which is a hotel not a motel so all indoor halls. I didn't see a standard room but I had a 1 bedroom suite which easily held a scooter. It also has free breakfast and is just a 1/2 mile walk no big streets to cross (and on the ART route). It is not on Harbor but 7/11 is on the corner and it is right next door to 7/11. I think it was West Katella.

I'm with you - I insist that my hotel room door not open to the outside walkway. I've stayed at the HoJo a couple of times with my granddaughter and it's perfect for staying off-site with a child. The rooms are clean, the beds are super comfy and the customer service is wonderful. I love having a mini-fridge and a microwave in the room too, and the parking is free. The walk is fine - it's 1/3 of a mile from HoJo to the middle of the esplanade, and I never felt unsafe at night. Your 2-year old grandson will be in a stroller, and you'll have your scooter, so as long as your daughter is fine walking it'll be good. I can't stay on-site every trip either (I'd rather go more often than go all-out and only go once a year) and the HoJo is our go-to off-site hotel. There are closer ones, but for the money/value, HoJo is hard to beat. The DisBoard rate is 15% which is now better than the AP rate of 10%. You can get a 20% discount but only if you pre-pay in full and it's non-refundable (a new policy I'm not a fan of).

I guess I do have favorites FFI and Stovalls. I have been to FFI about 6 times, Stovall's twice and FFI again this month. I have also been in the big Marriott and the older bungalow Residence Inn.

I know both FFI and Stovalls are exterior hall and neither are fancy. I like a quiet room, a good bed, and no smell. FFI is best at these for the walking hotels I have been to. I would like to go to the Candy Cane but never seen to be able to get in. I don't like small properties where all the cars are right on the room (stovall's pushes my limit on this one). I am also not a fan of properties where a full restaurant is tucked into the main body and the kitchen exhaust vents affect the rooms.
