What is your FAVORITE free live performance?

Definitely Beauty and the Beast...the Rose garden theatre has a cute story time with Belle if you have little ones. nemo is great, as well as Lion King!!!!

Ooh - how about that guy that plays and sings at the Riverside at night? He's really amazing! Very entertaining! (Maybe it's POFQ? I don't remember)

And, nobody's mentioned the Tiki Birds yet!

Ok, so it is still around. I know that last year there were even announcements that they would be shutting down Beauty and the Beast, but I guess it never happened. I agree, it's always packed, I'm not sure why they would shut it down (except to either upgrade it or put a new show in, that show has been there a long time).

One of our favorite free live performances is watching the piano player either at the Magic Kingdom, or at the bar at the Riverside. They both play Honkey Tonk pianos, and both are very entertaining. Not a full on show per se, but still just as good.

The guy that plays at the Magic Kingdom has been playing there FOREVER, I can remember being a kid watchin him. In fact, the one that plays at Disneyland just retired 2 years ago, and he had been playing there since 1969!! It's going to be crazy if one day I can watch Reilly sit there and watch him play at the Magic Kingdom, knowing that one day I was his exact same age...lol

I vote for the Lion king at AK..... I think that show alone is worth the price of admission.

I cant for the life of me recall what the piano players name is at Dixie landings (Port Orleans Riverside for the PC crowd ;) ) He has his own web site and plays at other places around Orlando. Its a great show.

Sing us a song Mr piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Cuz were all in the mood for a melody
And youve got us feelin alright

The right man on a piano and a good buzz can be a heck of a great evening.(glancing over at the flame and winking)

I vote for Nemo.....I cried!!!!! I am not sure why but I did. My 4 year old loved it too. It was the first time he sat still for an hour.

I liked the original Tiki Birds & the original CoP (now is the time, now is the best time).

They have (had) a Tiki Torch lighting ceremony at the main entrance to the PR. Fire dancers and everything. It used to be held around sunset.

We wanted to see Nemo but the line was SOOOOOO long. I keep hearing that its great. The travel channel had it included in one of their speciala IIRC.

OT... SKYW, do you ever run into Tony around Columbus ?

His name is Bob Jackson, here is his website :)

He does shows throughout Orlando, but he mainly plays at the Riverside (Dixie Landings ;) ). You can even find his schedule on his website, to see where he'll be playing if you're in Disney at the time.

As always, I can never pick just one so I shall ramble on...

Epcot – Toss up between MoRockin and Off-Kilter; DH likes the Taiko drummers in Japan. The Chinese Acrobats are great too.

MGM – A huge toss up…either Indiana Jones, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show or our traditional favorite….Fantasmic.

AK – Lion King and a close second is Finding Nemo

MK – Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial

Downtown Disney (West Side) – Magic Masters demonstrations in their shop. A great show for pre-teen boys.

The Boardwalk – Live street performers; a nice place to chill on an off day.

Animal Kingdom Lodge – the savannah viewing area, not a live performance per se, but a free show nonetheless.

Also, a great site for the latest entertainment going on around WDW: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares

Okay, off topic for a moment (like I ever go off topic). When I was in college back in the stone age I was at a bar in NYC and this goofy looking guy sat down at the piano and started to play and he was GOOD. I asked my NYC friends who he was and they said "some new guy named Billy Joel."

Anyway, my favorite show I guess qualifies as being free since you don't really have to buy anything to see it. It's Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Rays.

cosmic rays is good also..... my favorite "free" show is the fireworks.... no $70 ticket to a theme park needed to enjoy there.

Wow Rog, you're little thread took off pretty quickly today. I saw somebody talk about the Tiki Birds. I went to WDW in 72 and have been probably 100 times to the MK and when we were there in April I saw the ETB for the 1st time lol. Surferrat thought I was crazy when I said I'd never seen it. It was ok but not something I would be sad if I never saw it lol.

It's hard to pick favorite shows. At HS, I would say Fantasmic. AK, Festival of the Lion King. Epcot, Candlelight processional. MK, I would say Carousel of Progress. I haven't seen that vote yet. DD and I saw that in 04 during our first trip to the fort and when we got back to the campground we rented a golf cart and looped around looking at Christmas Decorations singing the song from COP lol. I'll never forget that day. So everybody now get that song stuck in your heads lol.

My kids loved the roaming street performers at MGM/HS. They had more fun watching and participating with them then they did on the rides. They also loved the band that comes out on a truck (landscapers or something like that) at MGM/HS. I personally like Beauty and Beast and is it 4 for a dollar that performs before hand. I also like the barbershop quartet that plays in MK. We love all of the "extra things" at WDW just as much as the rides. Oh yeah the piano guy at POR. We stayed there last year and he had the bar/lounge area pumped up signing very loud.

EVERYBODY- "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow...":rolleyes1
I like that show

Back to topic- I love Indiana Jones, Beauty & the Beast, Devine at AK, & the Festival of the Lion King.
