Hi,
I am trying to find out which Deluxe resorts people like best, so I know which ones to try. So far we have stayed at WL, Dolphin and at one moderate, POR. Please tell me which is your favorite and why.
Thanks!

Well, Bonnie, it's not easy picking a favorite at WDW. We stayed at the Contemporary quite a few years and thought that was great. Once the moderates came about we tried the Caribbean Beach and were very happy there for a number of years. Last year, we stayed at the Polynesian for the first time and loved it.

We're looking at trying the Wilderness Lodge next year and will eventually do the Grand Floridian, but I really have an urge to go back to the Poly again, too.

Of course, everyone has different tastes and interests. One good way to check out the different resorts is to have dinner at them during your stays. They all have good restaurants.

Have a great time, wherever you stay :D

I went with AKL... I love everything about it.

Are Swan & Dolphin really in the deluxe category? They don't seem deluxe somehow? I thought they were moderates.

>>^..^<<

I love the Contemporary for it's location, atmosphere, views, pools, size of the rooms and monorail. ::MickeyMo

I voted for the Poly, although AKL is wonderful too. The Poly's location is why it gets the slight edge. However, I have only stayed at 4 of the deluxes. My goal is to stay at all:D

We have stayed at Contemporary, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Polynesian, Yacht Club, Beach Club and Swan. Our favorite is the Polynesian. I think it has the most to offer for families for the money. We only get a garden view room. The activities for children and monorail access win hands down, not to mention the pool, ewp and fireworks from the beach etc. Our all time favorite.

This is my post on "Disney Ratings and Reviews" for the CR (you should check out all the posts on the deluxe resorts):

We have stayed at the Contemporary Resort 14 times over the years - the first when our children were 4, 7 and 9 and the latest with extended family (and our "children" were 18, 21 and 23). We have tried other resorts but always return to the CR.

Some people have commented that the CR looks sterile, but we don't agree. It depends on your taste and what you're looking for.

We love the fact that the monorail goes through the hotel. It puts you in the Disney mood the moment you see it. The convenience of staying at a monorail resort is wonderful - you can get to the parks easily (even if the park is a non-monorail park, the buses stop at the CR often and in our experience are never crowded). Being able to return easily in the middle of the day to the CR for a nap, swim or meal is a big plus.

Chef Mickey's is tons of fun for all ages and the food is pretty good. There are also two top restaurants there, the Concourse Steakhouse which is very good and the California Grill which is very high priced, but excellent. The Food N Fun center offers quick meals and is great for a quick breakfast and for filling your refillable mugs. There is a game room next to the Food N Fun center which offers a nice diversion, but is quite noisy (I wish it weren't open to the Food N Fun center, but instead had doors).

The pools are average, but Bay Lake offers boat rentals and such, which to me, means resort living.

As we were able to afford it, we started staying in the tower instead of the garden wings. The tower is well worth the extra money if it fits your budget. The rooms in the tower either overlook the MK or Bay Lake and all have balconies. I personally love having a cup of coffee in the morning on my balcony before starting the day - which reminds me, there are no coffee makers in the rooms, but there is a nice coffee bar on the first floor. The rooms are, I believe, the largest non-suites offered in the Disney resorts. The bathrooms are very nicely laid out, with a large sink area and shower, with a separate door leading to a commode and another sink.

From the halls of the tower, you look down on Chef Mickey's and the concourse/shop area. There's nothing like getting off the elevator and hearing a faint sound, the realizing everyone at Chef Mickey's is singing, so you look over the railing and see everyone waving their napkins. It's also a great way to start the day as you leave your room.

The cast members are among the best at WDW. We have always had helpful, friendly and smiling cast members greet us - the fun starts at check-in. The maid service is terrific and we sometimes get fun surprises in our room.

Last but not least, Walt himself had a hand in the design.

Okay, the Deluxe resorts I've stayed in are, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge and the Boardwalk. Hands Down my favorite is The Boardwalk. I'd love to stay in the Contemporary again because of all of the amenities. My hubby fulfilled my dream of staying at the GF last year and while it was beautiful, I was a bit disappointed. I love the Wilderness Lodge for many reasons. BUT my favorite is the Boardwalk. Maybe because it's our DVC home resort, maybe because of its proximity to EPCOT, maybe it's beautiful decoration, I don't really know. I just know I love that resort.::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

What about OKW?

I think if you did this poll over on the DVC forum and didn't include OKW, there'd be a riot!

Oh yeah... Based on the delux resorts I've stayed at: BWV, OKW, WL, VWL, AKL, YC, and Dolphin... My favorite is VWL. The whole resort is fantastics, and the villas have 1&2BR suites...the only way to do WDW!

Maybe my opinion will change, after our trip to GF this thanksgiving.... I'll let you know. ;)

I could not vote because for us it depends. If we are looking to relax and just get away and maybe be pampered some that is when we stay at the Animal Kindgom Lodge Concierge. When we are looking to be in the middle of the action that is when we stay at the Dolphin.

So depending on what you are looking to get our of your vacation experiance AKL or the Dolphin.

I voted for the Poly ;) because it's the best deluxe for our family of 4 with two small kids who love MK. If I didn't have children or was traveling without them, I'd chose YC or the GF... with the BWI as a close second. :)

If money is an issue I'd recommend the Swan. :)

Well.... I voted for AKL but I'm not sure how accurate my vote is because it's the only deluxe we have stayed at :p . BUT... it will probably be the only deluxe we ever stay at because once we tried it, we fell in love!!!!! I can't imagine staying anywhere else!!!

I voted for the BW. After staying there on our last trip, we loved the feeling of being in the middle of everything. The constant goings on around the resort keep it full of excitement. Being close to the studios and Epcot are so convenient. And the choices of restaurants is very large. Before that trip BC was the favorite, but BW moved ahead.

This was HARD, but in the end, I went with the Wilderness Lodge, the Animal Kingdom Lodge would be my runner up. It was the marina activities and lake views that made the difference for me, but still, it was not an easy decision. We've also stayed at Contemporary, Dolphin and Poly.

Bobbi:D

Well, we have stayed at Poly (2x), Beach Club (1), Yacht Club (3x), Boardwalk Inn (2x). Liked to Boardwalk so much, ended up buying into DVC there.

I would still like to stay at the Wilderness Lodge especially around the time when it is decorated for Christmas. I would like to do the Animal Kingdom Lodge Concierge so that we can do the safari ride in the a.m.

So far I haven't stayed at an on site Disney Resort that I haven't loved. They all have unique opportunities to explore.

Have fun at the one you pick next!!
:sunny:

I voted for the Poly, but I would have to say now that the GF is a very close second. With the kids the Poly is definitely #1, if we went without the kids then GF would have to be the best.

FWIW, we weren't nearly as thrilled with AKL as we had hoped we would be. YMMV.

We can't wait to try YC next!

Contemporary. What can I say? Location, location, location!

Thanks so much for the responses. So far it looks like WL is winning, with Poly and AKL close behind. I trust the people on these boards, so I'm sure these resorts are great. Thanks again!
