I'm looking for some summer reading ideas. What's your favorite book and why?

...!
I guess it depends what kind of book you are looking for. Three of my favourite (series of books) are:

* The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy. This is absolutely hilarious, but I guess may only appeal if you like Sci-fi comedy.

* The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett. I'm always trying to convert new fans to these!!! Again, best if you are into fantasy novels but anyone can enjoy them.... some favourites are Soul Music, Maskerade (a great parody of the Phantom of the Opera), Witches Abroad (which parodies nearly every fairy tale you can think of...).... the list goes on and on, try one!!

* Finally, I've recently read 'Flowers in the Attic' by Virginia Andrews. and then I read the rest in the series. It was very engaging, very moving, a really great read. and for once, not a sci-fi/fantasy!!!

Hope this helps,
Cya,

centennial by james michener.

i love michener, and i think he really makes the characters come alive in this one. :)

My tastes in literature run to the feminine so I hope these match yours

Loved Chocolat....book, movie and music!

Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood (YA YA)

All the Harry Potter books worked for me. Can't wait for the new one!

Jimmy Buffets books are pretty funny.

Like the Janet Evanovich (sp) series...one for the money, two for the dough....up to hard eight! Easy reads-mysteries with a twist.

Just read a book about a caterer Goldy Schultz who solves mysteries. The book includes recipes but can't put my hands on it to give you the author...it was a light read and funny, though!

Always thought it would be cool to write books based in DW. Have to be romances, though....murder mysteries just wouldn't cut it.

I live to read and work to live and go to DW!!! Love it when you get a good book that you can't put down!

Jackie Collin's book's are fun summer reading. My fav. book of all time is Gone With The Wind.

The Goldy caterer books are by Diane Mott Davidson and they are great. One of my favorite books was A walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. Don't see the movie they ruin the book. Any of his stuff is good. The Guardian his new one is really good. Mary Higgins Clark's new one is good. Go by your public library and look at the new releases or I go to Books a Million and look for titles then go to the library. Books on tape are also a great way to enjoy books especially books that you might not like reading. Biographs are great that way. BArbara Bush's and the newest one on George Bush 41 was great. His children read that one. It is kind of hard to drive down the road crying. The important thing is to find a good book and read!!!

All time fave:

The Stand by Stephen King because it's such a LONG, meaty story and the characters are ones you really can love or hate, depending on which side they are on!!!
