What is Your Christmas breakfast Menu?

I make homemade waffles every Christmas morning! I usually make either sausage or bacon with it! It goes well with the chocolate from our stockings too!! ;)

Usually cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate. The kids aren't really into sitting down for breakfast when they have new presents to entertain them, so I stick to something simple that they can eat when they are ready.

We started a new tradition last year that had been my Aunt's tradition when my cousins were growing up. She gave me a recipe for caramel rolls that you prepare the night before, put in the oven (don't turn on) and then turn on the oven in the morning when you get up and then they're ready by the time we're finished with presents! easy and yummy!!

OOH! Are you able to share this recipe? My kids LOVE cinnamon rolls and this would be an even better treat on Christmas morning!

Paula Deen's french toast casserole, sausage links, I rotate an egg based breakfast casserole, and cinnamon rolls. Also usually some fresh fruit. Breakfast is our big meal of the day on Christmas

I usually do Paula Deen's french toast casserole too! It's sooooo yummy - and not to mention EASY!

We have cinnimon rolls, and an egg cassarole that I can make the night before with ham, sausage, green peppers, onion etc, Hot chocolate and LOTS of coffee!

Since we are a blended family, we have a blended tradition for Christmas morning breakfast. My dh makes a breakfast casserole (eggs, biscuits, sausage & cheese). I make monkey bread which is biscuits rolled in cinnamon in sugar, drizzled with melted butter & brown sugar, then baked in a bundt pan. Our kids love it & ask for it periodically throughout the year but I tell them I don't know how to make it any day other than Christmas morning.

Homemade hot chocolate
Homemade belgian waffles with whipped cream & strawberries
Ham (hubby always has to have a Smithfield ham for Christmas)
Some sort of quiche or egg casserole depending on my latest recipe
Fruit salad

We are doing a big breakfast because my DD won't be with us for dinner this year.

bacon
scrambled eggs
fruit salad
ham
hash brown casserole
cinemon rolls but I might substitute monkey bread to change it up a bit

I am really looking forward to it, we love a big breakfast!

My husband hates casseroles, so I can't fix any of these anymore. Does anyone have any unusual breakfast items that your family enjoys? I would like to sit with them around the tree and enjoy watching our son play with his toys rather than standing in the kitchen cooking for several hours. An ideas?

I make cinnamon rolls on Christmas eve as well as casserole. Put them in the fridge, and then take out to rise for about 30-45 minutes. Bake for 15 (while you're making the frosting and, for me, while the casserole is cooling a bit). They're wonderful!

When I was growing up, my mom would just buy danish and stollen from the bakery (the only time we got stuff from the bakery was Christmas) and served with a plate of Christmas cookies, fruitcake and quick breads (date nut was her signature one). Add some egg nog, and you're ready to go.

Cinnamon Rolls
1 1-lb. loaf frozen bread dough, thawed

1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1½ T. ground cinnamon
4 T. butter or margarine

2 T cream cheese, softened
2 T butter, softened
3/4 c. confectioners' sugar
1/4 t. vanilla extract
1/8 t. salt

I usually thaw the dough in the fridge early in the morning – it’s thawed when I make the rolls sometime after dinner.

Mix cinnamon and brown sugar in a bowl. Set aside. Roll dough into about a 10 X 14 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 4 T. butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Roll up dough and cut into 8 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes (or you can cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight – remove from fridge in the morning and then allow to rise).

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 2 T butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving.

Me three! We switch off between Paula Deen's french toast casserole, Butter Braid from DS's school (fundraiser last year) and sometimes orange sweet rolls. Planning on Paula's recipe this year again, BUT...this sounds good:

Ditto - can you share the recipe?

I make monkey bread since I do not like casseroles either! But then, I am happy eating a breakfast roll and tea. Your husband might want more of a breakfast?

I like a version like this that uses butterscotch pudding.

Maggie

That's pretty much the recipe I use! Except I just put it in the oven at night and then turn the oven on in the morning.

12 Rhodes frozen rolls
1 pkg butterscotch pudding (NOT INSTANT)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 stick margarine (melted) - i use BUTTER, we don't use margarine in this house!

MAKE AT NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED! Spray a bundt pan with Pam and place rolls in bottom of pan. Mix together pudding (not instant), brown sugar, pecans and cinnamon. Pour the dry mixture over rolls. Drizzle melted margarine (butter) over all. Place in COOL oven. DO NOT TURN OVEN ON. In the morning, do not remove the rolls. Turn oven to 350. Cook for 20 minutes. Immediately turn onto platter and serve.

Normally we make an egg, ham and bacon casserole... so good! However, this year I have decided to do that for New Years. Instead I am going to make mini quiches and sausage balls ahead of time and heat on Christmas morning. I think I might have to try the caramel rolls the previous poster posted the recipe for as well. They sound fabulous! We will graze on cookies and appetizers for lunch and have our big meal that night.

I believe this recipe came from Taste of Home. It is HEAVENLY! :cloud9:

Blueberry Morning Glory:
1 Challah bread, ripped apart (I use Hawaiian bread, never could find the Challah)
1 8oz. pkg, cream cheese
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 cups blueberries (frozen work great)
1/2 cup sugar
8 eggs
2 cups half&half

In a greased 9x13 casserole dish, arrange half of the bread. Scatter the cream cheese over the bread. Scatter the blueberries over the cheese. Arrange the remaining bread on top. In a separate bowl, mix together the eggs, sugar, syrup and half&half. Pour carefully and evening over the bread mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 about 1 hour. Serve with blueberry sauce (below). Serves 12.

Blueberry Sauce:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 cup blueberries
1 Tbsp butter

In a saucepan, mix together sugar, cornstarch and water. Cook over moderate heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Add blueberries (if frozen, don't thaw) and simmer about 10 mins. stirring occassionally, until berries have burst. Add butter and stir until blended.

Thanks so much! And as my DS would say, it sounds "easy peasy lemon squeezy!"

Ooh, and this sounds awesome too!

Too bad we're a tiny family of three and I can't make both

I enjoy reading about everyones Christmas traditions. Do you have a traditional Christmas morning breakfast?

A few years ago dh was out on Christmas Eve day and picked up some cinnamon crunch bagels and a container of cream cheese from Panera Bread. We had it on Christmas morning with OJ, coffee and milk..... soooo yummy! It has now become our tradition. Then we head over to my in-laws for a large brunch.

Just DH and me. For Christmas day, I think I'm going to make pancakes and hot apples (apples, rasins, and cinnamon, heated until bubbly). Oh, and orange juice :goodvibes

Every since I was little Christmas morning breakfast has always been breakfast pastrys and hot choclate or Egg Nog. Sometimes we have bacon or sausage with it, sometimes yogurt or cheese cubes but it is always primarily a sweet breakfast. This year I'm very glad we don't have a tradition of a big breakfast on Christmas since we will be in a hotel room.

I tried making Paula Deen's Eggs Mornay casserole which I thought was delicious. My sons wouldn't touch it, though, and my husband choked down a few bites and said he'd rather have scrambled.

Last year I made the Monkey Bread that comes from the freezer section and only needs to be microwaved. That was a hit.

Scrambled eggs, bacon and monkey bread. The kids live for the monkey bread almost as much as the presents!:lovestruc
