Just curious.

I've never seen a price below say $500 per person with the taxes included. I'm curious what the best price AC has to offer flying out of Toronto on a direct flight to MCO. In other words, would there ever be a reason to not fly out of Buffalo based strictly on price.

Andy

I paid $281 (all taxes and fees included) for non-stop direct flights on Air Canada for my trip back in January. I booked this rate back on November 21st.

I then booked the exact same rate for my upcoming trip in October back on December 22nd.

So um...yeah. :)

Yep, $300ish is about as cheap as you can go out of Pearson. Even when they have these great seat sales at Cdn$49 or something one way, it always seems to come out to $1200ish for our family of 4.

Sometimes you can get airfare out of BUF for Cdn$650. You just have to decide whether the trek to BUF is worth the differential. I kinda do as I would prefer to spend those few hundred dollars at WDW.

I think anything under $400 is good.

Air Canada had a crazy sale last ... November I think it was. I booked a ticket for this October for under $300. I then had a discount code that brought the ticket price to about $250 - I can't remember but have the exact number at home. I normally book tickets on points/miles but I figured for the price, I might as well save them for next January. I haven't seen any deals for flights then.

Is there a reason people want to fly Air Canada? West Jet is cheaper, and (I think) just plain better.

I have a whack of aeroplan miles so my next two trips to Disney for the family will be paid for in points. Not to mention that since I am a season seat holder with the Toronto Blue Jays, they fly me to Tampa every year (two seats) for spring training. I just haven't been able to take them up on that offer yet since everytime I could go my wife got pregnant!

But everytime I have tried to price out of Buffalo using expedia.ca I haven't found the prices that much cheaper for a direct flight. The thought of stopovers with a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and newborn just makes me sick to the stomach and all the deals have stopovers.

You should check the airline sites directly. We fly southwest out of Buffalo and fly nonstop flights. This May the two of us are flying southwest with direct flights both ways for a total of $254US or about $300 Cdn. We definately think that it's worth the drive to Buffalo.

I've always found the two prices to be pretty comparable - there may be some small variances depending on the day of the week, etc, but I've been watching prices a lot lately, and they're almost identical.

As for why AC rather than WJ - AC in general has more selection in terms of flights per day and/or week. As we fly from Winnipeg, I'm always worried about missed connections, etc. When I do a search on WJ, I have 4 options traveling south, and only 1 option coming home. With AC, I have 14 options heading down, with 10 coming back. True, the service is not nearly as friendly on AC as WJ, but hey, I plug in my IPod and ignore them for the most part!

I've actually been watching United a lot these days - I think they're even better in terms of options for connections.

Well if your wife keeps getting pregnant around spring training, your timing is way off! *LOL* You gotta plan this stuff man if you worship the Church of Baseball! *Bull Durham!*

If you are pricing flights out of Buffalo, by all means check Expedia, but also go to Jet Blue's website and also Southwest website. They both have non stop flights from BUF To MCO and are not featured on Expedia. I went SWA this year for $290.00 US. Cheapest out of YYZ was over $500!

You just have to look around but SWA has seat sales alot so keep checking there!

For our flights in May we ended up paying $450.83 per person, roundtrip, including ALL taxes and immigration fees etc.

However, I was really POed with Air Canada because a few days before we booked, the flights were listed at $99 each way. So we contemplated for literally 2 days, and when we went back to look at the flights they had gone up to approx. $159. We were kind of beating ourselves up over not buying a few days earlier, but thought this was still a pretty good deal and that we should book before they go up again. So we did.

Now comes the irritating part. Just out of curiosity, I go back to the website a week later to check the price of the flights, and what are they listed at? Of course, $99  I have no idea why AC felt the need to suddenly increase their price by $60 and then go back down the next week... but let me tell you, I was MADDDD!

Bought our flights back in November for out August trip when they had there 50% off sale on.
The tickets with taxes ended up being $408.00 each. I needed 9:scared1:
We normally fly out of Buffalo but with so many of us going we would have needed to drive and park three cars.
At least this time our loving family members not going have said they will drop us off at the airport:thumbsup2

Depending on the day of the week, time of the flight, either might be cheaper for us.

And with WJ, except for the 2 non-stop flights from Halifax to MCO per week, we have to connect in Toronto (and that adds more than 5 hours to our travel time, each way)

We flew on United last year -- it was the cheapest for us, and our only connection was in Washington. :goodvibes

While West Jet may be better in there customer service department there one direct flight to and from MCO in August was not that appealing.
Air Canada was also less expensive when I booked and paid for nine flights back in November.
My other consideration when going to Orlando in August in the middle of hurricane season is that if anything were to happen that we needed to get out of there Air Canada offers more flights and they also code share with many other airlines. West Jet code shares with nobody. It is just a little added peace of mind that I hopefully will not need.
Out of our last three trips in August two of them have had major tropical storms. Thank goodness the rain does not bother us!!!!!

I'm unsure why everytime someone asks about costs of flying out of Toronto, people has to jump on the "but it's better to fly out of Buffalo" bandwagon. :confused3

The OP asked what is the cheapest price anyone has gotten for a flight on Air Canada, I answered. I have flown out of Toronto and Buffalo many times and you're 100% right, sometimes it IS worth the drive to Buffalo, but sometimes not. I've done the Buffalo thing in the past and saved over $1,000, so yeah it can be worth the drive.

However, in this case, it was just for 2 adults so by your price of $660 for a family of 4 out of Buffalo, that would be only $330 for us. I'm not driving to Buffalo to save only $200 bucks. By the time I put in gas, my time and (depending on flight time) hotel, I come out behind. So thanks, but no thanks.

Don't get yourself into a knot. I have flown out of Toronto too since the price differential at that time was only $300 for our family of four. Of course the economics change if you have fewer people.

What I also meant to get across is that there is a floor price for Air Canada and West Jet due to airport taxes. Pearson is one of the most expensive in the world in terms of air taxes.

And one last thing - Go Buffalo! ;)

That is the same reason why my DF won't fly out of Buffalo. I use to fight him on it but the effort wasn't really worth the $200. Plus, he would be the one driving to and from Buffalo so it wasn't really fair for him.

Okay here's my dilemma

Going for a short trip July 19-21. Checked AC and WJ--both approx $465 CAD roundtrip Toronto to Orlando

Looking at Southwest Airlines--$209 USD (approx $250 CAD) roundtrip Buffalo to Orlando non-stop

My question is does Southwest Airlines commonly oversell seats? Last thing I want is to be stranded or not able to get on my flight home! Or have a flight go from non-stop to 1 connection.

If I hear that Southwest is a trusted airline and nobody has had any problems when booking these low cost fares, I'll purchase my tickets in a heartbeat. Then I'll figure out where to keep my car for the 3 days :scared:

We've flown Southwest approx. 16 times in the last few years. We've had 2 flights delayed due to weather -- rain not snow btw which can't be helped. Our flights have never been changed otherwise. If we booked a connecting flight then it was a connecting flight and if it was non-stop then it was non-stop. We've also never run into a situation where the flight has been oversold.

We usually leave our car at the airport and it's about $8/day to park.

Once you've booked the fares go back and check periodically because the fares can go down (they can go up too) but if they go down you can rebook at the lower fare and have a credit to use for a year from the time of booking.

Also sign up for Rapid Rewards on their website and DING.

One month from today we will be winging our way south on southwest.:banana::banana:
